With the clearest water of any of the San Diego beaches, La Jolla cove makes for a breathtaking scuba diving or snorkelling experience. It is easy to see how this one of a kind location received its name meaning "the Jewel". The gentle cove also lends itself well to a relaxing day at the beach for sunbathing, or catching up on some reading.

2. Venice beach
The infamous Venice Beach provides a one of a kind experience for the beach-goer. From the boardwalk to Muscle beach, it is clear that this is a place to see and be seen. Offering a wide variety of activities including paddle tennis, handball, volleyball and much more. There are many ways to enjoy this famous beach whether is be biking, rollerblading or just laying out in the sand.

3. Laguna Beach
One of the premier beaches in Orange County, this beach boasts and absolutely beautiful setting. Volleyball and Basketball courts are available as well as some great spots to scuba dive. The secluded bays and cliffs reaching toward the sea make this beach a must see attraction.

4. Manhattan Sound
A popular beach, to say the least, Manhattan sound offers Indoor and Outdoor Volleyball along with great waves for surfing or boogie boarding. If your all out of energy and need to refuel after a day in the sun, try out one of the many beach side restaurants.

5. Moonlight State beach
A great family beach with numerous activities available to make sure everyone has a great time. Public Parking and restrooms, Fire pits and lifeguards on duty are just the beginning to the amenities offered here. Picnic areas and volleyball courts are also available, enabling you to make a day of it out at the beach. Try out the nearby Encanitas Cafe, or just lounge in the sun and get some well deserved R&R.

6. Windansea Beach
A popular surfers hangout, Windansea Beach derives its name from an oceanfront hotel that burned down in the 1940's. Winansea is best known for its beautiful scenery and its surf breaks created by underwater reefs. While it is a great area for surfers and sunbathers, be careful entering the water as the steep beaches, create a hard breaking surf right at the shoreline.

7. Pacific Beach
This is a beach known well by local surfers and those seeking a fun beach hangout. With vibrant nightlife from the beach side restaurants and bars, Pacific beach is the place to go if your looking for a beach side atmosphere to mingle and have a drink while enjoying the great views.

8. Imperial Beach
From surfing to horseback riding, Imperial beach has got it all. Whether you are beach combing, hiking, or just hanging out and having a picnic, this is a great location to enjoy the southern most California beach. It is not recommended to swim however, as there are hazards such as in shore holes and rip currents combined with the fact that there are no lifeguards on duty.

9. Redondo Beach
With great swimming, volleyball and a one of a kind walking path, Redondo beach is also a great surf spot, offering rolling waves year round. The scene here can be very entertaining with large numbers of people walking, biking and rollerblading along the path. Definitely a great place to spend a day taking it all it.

10. Ocean Beach
This is an immensely popular beach for surfers as there are great waves created by the jetties. Swimmers and sunbathers also can find a fun and friendly atmosphere at this San Diego beach. Spend a day in the sun before enjoying the gorgeous sunset on this quaint and lovely beach.
