"Truly successful decision making relies on a balance between deliberate and instinctive thinking." -Malcolm Gladwell

Last weekend I was in Provincetown and participated in a fundraiser for the local animal shelter. I met a lot of local dog people there and really enjoyed their company. Today I talked to a new contact about contract tech work. And this coming weekend I'm attending two local meetup groups (both of which I started). I'm not chatting up my social calendar as much as I'm realizing how important these kinds of interactions are for me. It's become clearer to me how much I need to continually stretch my social cirlces (which can be a challenge for this double Pisces!).

In those instances it was quite easy for me to do that since those are people who are interested in the same things as I am (dogs, tech work, and astrology). But what about the people I don't normally spend time with? What social networks (both physical and virtual) am I missing out on just because I don't want to upset the equilibrium? Mine or theirs. When's the last time I had dinner with a Republican? (okay, it was in July with my parents). This month, how can I make a new ally? Can I form a partnership outside of my usual circle that is mutually beneficial?

The Astrology of the New Moon

The new moon occurs on September 27, 2011 at 7:09 AM EDT at 4° Libra. The new moon is the beginning of a new monthly cycle and the position of the new moon shows us where to focus our efforts in order to make the most of our energy. The sign of Libra is about bringing cohesion, cooperation, and counterbalance to situations in order for two opposing energies to work together in harmony. Libra actively seeks out connections through social interactions in order to gain a clearer picture of the self.

There are five planets in Libra right now (including the sun and moon) and the emphasis is on how we relate. How do we relate to other people? Do we look for differences or do we discover commonalities? Can we cooperate? This month we need to put most of our efforts into bridging gaps, finding common ground, and building allies.

The new moon is opposed by Uranus in Aries- the rouge. We may come up against people who seem totally antithetical to to us. In those moments let us remember that's exactly who we're meant to meet. And it's then we can choose to create harmony over disharmony.

In this moment in time our country seems more polarized than ever. And until each one of us individually chooses peace we'll never find it in the people "out there."

During this new moon Venus, the planet in charge of Libra, is in her own sign and close to the planet Saturn. This duo is also "unaspected" meaning it doesn't make a connection to anything else in the chart. With no connection to the rest of the chart it's free to act - uninhibited by the other planetary energies. It's as if it were saying, "regardless of what's happening out there you can hold on to your ability to be kind, courteous, and fair." Let's hope that's the case for all of us.

If you'd like to learn how this new moon interacts with your own chart look for the house that contains 4° of Libra. This new moon is occuring in my tenth house of career, reputation, and public action. It may be a good month for me to look for new partners in business; or increase my reputation through an association with a person or company. It also speaks to my need to create a professional network that's made of up a variety of people- not only those I typically associate with.
