I reflect on my life when there were times that I thought I was living a charmed life. I felt like I couldn’t lose. Everything seemed to go my way with little or no effort. Then I also reflect on times in my life where nothing seemed to go right. Everything that could possibly go wrong… did!
Unfortunately, for me the earlier part of my adult life is where I was floating on cloud nine. So after some years had passed and my good fortune went right along with it, I had a difficult time adapting to this new phase of my life. I couldn’t understand what I had done wrong to be having all these unpleasant situations coming to me. I thought perhaps I was being punished for something.
At first I became very bitter and upset. I was angry with God and even went as far as to mentally “curse” the Creator. I didn’t have the insight or intuition then to know that the experiences I was having would turn out to be my greatest blessing. It was during this period that I began to turn inward directly to the Source to seek a pardon from my troubling life.
Through the passage of more years and experiences and the pleasant turn of “fate,” I began to realize that this is simply the pattern of life. Creation operates on the laws of duality. It moves like waves of the ocean. There will be peaks and valleys. This is inevitable for anyone who is still attached and lacks even-mindedness. Even the liberated souls such as great masters are not exempt from the tides of life, they merely learn to find their bliss from within and not allow the “circumstances” of life dictate their being or state of mind. On the other hand, those who live life without even-mindedness, the results of meditation, do so often under stress, anxiety and a sense of being overwhelmed.
Those who are beginning meditators may not initially see any benefits of meditation. Many seek miraculous visions or out of body experiences. Even though you will most likely not have anything closely resembling these in your early efforts, you must understand that the impacts of meditation are extremely subtle at first. No effort at meditation goes in vain. By simply trying to be still, clear the mind and seek a personal experience of the Divine, you will steer the ship of your life in a better direction that cannot end up any place but in the good company of Spirit.
Meditation helps one to begin to separate from the attachments of life, desires and results. Meditation helps you to, even if only for a brief moment, step outside your problems and realize that you still exist in spite of the world’s chaos. Meditation helps you to find balance within. Just a little pause of a moment away from the delusion of this world allows for the Spirit's magnetic pull of Love to grab ahold of your consciousness and reel you back to your Truth. Continued efforts at meditation will eventually help you to realize that the only reality is YOU – the soul!
The soul is inherently one with Spirit and thus no created experience can ever usurp your Divine birthright. Meditation helps you to first separate from the frailties of life, then to rise above them and ultimately become master of yourself and therefore creation itself.
