Have you tried haggling with a seller before? Maybe you have, but doing it may sometimes give you cold, sweaty hands. Now imagine doing it while having a stammering disorder.

Observing Oscar’s greatest motion picture of the season makes me personally remember the moment when I followed a buddy to transact with Vancouver Hyundai dealers.

I was glad that finally, somebody made a movie focusing on stuttering people. With the King’s Speech finishing with four Oscar trophies, the film dominated nine other films during the awarding night having been declared as the Academy Award’s Best Picture this year. It has switched the world’s eyes towards the stuttering populace and also exposed a whole new standpoint in regards to the problems and the struggles they are experiencing. The film really made an impact with me, because like Colin Forth acting like Bertie in the film, my friend also stammer in his speech.

My friend and I grew together, and he is still as reserved as he was since we were still kids. Stuttering disorders usually start during childhood and will continue throughout a person’s lifetime. In the case of my friend, he has been stammering ever since I knew him.

His speech also made him run into trouble a few times, but he can defend himself well every time this happens. I remember the time when he had to teach two kids a lesson. They mocked the way he talked. In the end, both of them went home bringing a few wounds and bruises. He might be outnumbered that time, but he surely got an upper hand. His father had enrolled him in a karate class. His speech may be shaky, but his fists are very much reliable.

Because of his bad experiences, he learned to refrain from talking in front of other people. He spoke only when necessary, like during class recitations, but most the time he was just that reserved kid playing with me. He was quite a joker when he’s with family and close friends. Recently though, he enrolled the services of a speech therapist. I though things would finally go for the better in terms of his speech.

When he decided that he needed a car, he asked for my opinion. I referred him to some reputable Vancouver Hyundai dealerships so that he will have the freedom to choose. We went to this local car distributing shop and talked with Vancouver Hyundai dealers. They toured us around their company show room.

I originally thought that I would be the one doing all the talking because from how I knew this guy, he would usually rely on me to do these things because of his speaking problem.

I was completely wrong.

He haggled with the dealers himself and I was only there to support him or help him crumble the dealers attempts to resist from lowering the price. Fortunately, the Vancouver Hyundai dealers were very willing to give a great money slash off in selling the vehicle.

I got the feeling that he was trying really hard to control his speech and to stop duplicating some syllables. The longer he haggled with the dealers, the more I was amazed at this person. I could not help but smile the whole time. Like Bertie played by Colin Firth in the movie The King’s Speech, my good friend had successfully overcome this speech obstacle.

The transaction ended with him getting a flashy 2011 Hyundai Elantra at a base price of $15,849. Before he made the purchase he scheduled a test drive first. After that we thanked the dealers for a wonderful service, and he even dropped a compliment that they were one of the best Vancouver Hyundai dealerships in our place.

As we were leaving the showroom, I cannot help but just smile all the way until we drove back home. Like the stuttering monarch in The King’s Speech film, my friend had successfully overcome his stammering problems.

That’s why the next time he will buy a car, I won’t be worried. I’m certain of it.

Whether it's another Vancouver Hyundai dealer or any vehicle seller, my friend can now overcome his fear of talking in public. With this, I am assured that he can haggle as long as he wants and not be ashamed of his stammering disorder, which he have succesfully overcome.
