Greece is geographically located in the southeastern part of Europe. It borders Turkey, and comparatively appears to be close to the Middle East. However, the 126-mile border between Turkey and Greece has now turned out to be a backdoor to the European Union, making it smoother for the illegal immigrants from the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. The European Union’s border policy agency, Frontex has produced estimation that there have been major immigrants, who crossed the Turkey-Greece border in the year 2011. It is approximated that there have been more than 55,000 immigrants crossing the border, about 17% more than the former year.

Measures to get rid of the illegal immigrants:

This huge flow ofillegal immigrants has resulted in tensions and pressures all over Europe. The top French officials in charge of immigration has taken the issue very seriously, and suggested to build a huge wall along the entire border. As the country is gradually sinking in debt, instead of finding out any solutions, they are more enraged at the illegal foreigners.

The flow of the illegal foreigners in Greece has resulted in supporting the extreme-right golden Dawn party, which has promised to free Greece of the illegally entered foreigners. Even the mainstream parties of Greece have been very concerned about the issue, although the government is widely derided as inept in its efforts to police the border.

Athens is planning to build a $7.3 million fence on the Turk-Greece border to shut down the land crossings between the two countries, though it is a very effective method. The European Commission has not only rejected to pay any share for the fence, but also termed it to be pointless effort.

The Evros River valley to travel Istanbul:

Another problem for the Greece is the Evros River valley, which begins from the north, at the Edirne city of Turkey. It had been the capital of the Ottoman Empire once. To the south, on the side of Greek the farms often abut wire fencing, with signs and symbols of warning of minefields along with the dirt roads, which run adjacent to the cornfields. The immigrants emerge from the river being shivering in wet and cold and move to Athens. However, the last area where most of the illegal foreignerstake shelter is Istanbul. The teeming city of turkey, offer shelter to the people from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran, whose only possessions turn out to be shoes, pants and the T-shirts they wore, and waited for hours and hours for an Istanbul contact.
