Fear Grows Only In The Dark
Fear has many faces and not all of them are recognizable as fear. We have such a strong negative social perception of being afraid that we often disguise it as something more acceptable to our conscience. But fear is so prevalent in our civilization today that it could easily be viewed as a global pandemic because fear, like any disease, is contagious and is easily spread by the power of words and even body language. But the most important fact to know about fear, is that it grows in the darkness of ignorance.
Turning away and running from fear only gives it more power over you because that act is an affirmation of its existence and reinforces its strength. This is why we hear that the only way to deal with fear is to face it. Also, ignorance of the nature of fear is the fertile soil in which fear grows well, like mushrooms, if you keep it in the dark by feeding it the lies of denial, it will grow strong quickly.
Fear Thrives In The Garden Of Fear
Fear cannot grow or survive in an environment of truth and courage. It can only grow and survive in an environment of ignorance and indifference. For example; if I told you something that frightened you and it was about a subject that you knew little about and you did not take the time and make the effort to check on the facts, then you have simply surrendered your power to me by your acceptance. I can now use that something to scare you into doing whatever I want whenever I want. And if you never question the basis of your fear, you will have created a garden in which only fear can and will grow. The law of attraction works well here.
This is why there is concern today over the widespread use of fear as a power and control strategy over the general population of world citizens by anyone who has just enough knowledge to misuse fear. The irony here is that those who would use fear in this way are generally referred to as control freaks and people who are obsessed with controlling the world and everything in it are themselves very frightened and insecure people. Why else would you feel the need to control everything? And the others who would use fear in this way are just greedy people obsessed with the merchant mentality and think nothing of using fear as a marketing tool.
Knowledge And Awareness The Antidotes To Fear
If it wasn't for the very real consequences of the power of fear in our world we could easily perceive fear as the greatest paper tiger of all time. The truth about the nature of fear is that it is only a mental concept, an idea made up of a collection of thoughts which in turn are created by our own mind. If our mind is undisciplined and operates in a random fashion, then we can be sure that the resulting thoughts will be equally random and undisciplined. And fear is an especially slippery concept with the power to manipulate our emotions and therefore have the power to nullify our ability to reason. Without reason, ignorance can masquerade as the truth and provide the fertile ground for fear to grow.
But that very knowledge provides us with the weapons by which we can set ourselves free of fear. Knowledge and awareness automatically light up the darkness in which fear grows so well. That light is the light under which fear dies very quickly. But fear doesn't like to be questioned, it will disguise itself as doubt in an attempt to create confusion and distract us from our intention, and here is where courage and conviction come in handy. How easily and quickly you are able to overcome the chains of fear will depend on how long you have been living under their restraints. Fear, like anything else, can become an unconscious and accepted part of our lives and it will resist any attempt to change the status quo.
Do We Fear Our Own Power?
Fear has a way of safeguarding its own survival by turning its attention on our personal power, which makes sense since it is that power that is able to destroy fear. It does this simply by making us afraid of our power. It whispers in our mind about all the other consequences of power like personal responsibility and soon we begin to crumble under the weight of the enormity of the concept of power and if we have over time developed lazy thinking and behavior habits, then we will be likely to decide to go back to watching TV, it's much easier.
Easier, more comfortable, more pleasurable, ah the life of a 21st century slave. But I guess life in the real world isn't for everyone, you know, the real world, where risks are taken, where the heart is open, where we feel the world around us as actual experiences and not just ideas of the real world. If you have no clue what I'm talking about here then you can be sure that you have been a slave to fear for a long time. Fear of losing what you think you have, fear of not getting more than what you think you have, fear of death, fear of life, fear of yourself and your astonishing and unlimited power as the greatest adaptation of life ever to have appeared. Why do you suppose we are we not afraid of squandering that enormous potential?
