Sometimes you just need a week off your work AND life to properly analyze and decide on “what’s next” in your life. Many successful entrepreneurs do that like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. They take a week that they call a “think week” and even though you are not really working, a lot of good ideas may come from this time off. Reportedly, many of the best ideas that these two great entrepreneurs had, they had during this time off.

Why you need a week off

It does not help to just go out with all your family to travel and get to know a new place. No. That is not the point. I am talking about a complete whole week alone somewhere peaceful and quite, a place where you can relax and enjoy the art of doing nothing at all. When was the last time that you had a time for yourself to let your mind at ease and just enjoy a beautiful sunset? You could be quite amazed how many “Aha!” moments and good ideas could come out of moments like that.

Disconnect from the world

Nowadays, it gets harder and harder to disconnect from the world. Specially with the increase use of the World Wide Web wide spread everywhere, it is pretty easy to “just check your emails” or quickly see how the market went that day. This can be really good, to have access to all this information almost at anytime and anywhere you want it, however, you may realize that all this overload of information, is in fact prejudicial to you and your health.

Take a week off

So, start small, maybe take a weekend off. Go somewhere where is quite and tranquil. But go just yourself, no one else with you. No family. No boss. No phones. Maybe your dog if he is tranquil. But take that week and try to be at ease enjoying whatever landscape that you may like and give your head a little time off. By the end of the weekend, you will see that you will have brand new ideas (even though you were not working) and will also be completely refreshed to start a new week.
