I have met literally hundreds of surrogate mothers, both classic and gestational (even though I readily admit that most had been gestational). The women who tried to match themselves "independently" were the most exciting to talk with mainly because they #1 had one of the most issues/problems #2 failed to really total a surrogacy and #3 some ended up going with an agency. Now I know of an extremely couple of who've had a terrific knowledge matching themselves and I was happy and relieved to hear that they had a terrific knowledge. Nevertheless, a lot more frequently then not, there wasn't a pleased ending.

The question I had to ladies who need to be surrogates but did not wish to go through an agency is WHY NOT? What's incorrect with agencies? I know why some Intended Parents don't need to hire an agency and #1 is money but why do surrogates avoid agencies? Here are many of the leading reasons girls 'go independent':

#1 Potential Surrogates feel that they may be saving potential IPs income

#2 Possible Surrogates can set their own base fee without the need of an agency interfering and if the IP is 'saving money' (see #1) it may be given for the Independent surrogate

#3 Surrogates do not need to go by means of the screening an agency demands. Examples:

A. BMI larger then 30 would be "OK"

B. Not parenting their own kids would be "OK"

C. On public assistance will be fine

D. No Insurance is OK for the reason that they could be on public help

E. No Background Check for the reason that IP's don't want to devote the revenue

F. No psychological evaluation unless expected by the clinic

G. Taking certain drugs for anxiety for instance may possibly be acceptable

H. Hazardous working conditions is often overlooked

I. A 'retainer fee' is often requested

J. If Regular and in-home insemination then No IQ testing, No STD testing, no waiting for sperm quarantine

#4 Going by means of an agency requires as well considerably time and paperwork

Are these Really the type of women that IP's would like to carry their kid? NO! But then once again I don't think that Intended Parents who want to save time and revenue know what they are acquiring themselves into when they do not ask the best concerns or demand essentially the most fundamental of background data.
