"Should I be friends with my ex boyfriend?" No, you shouldn’t. Relationships are a confusing business and every second there is one being formed somewhere but also one breaking down. Sometimes these breakups can be smooth and simple whereas there are plenty of times when they can get very messy very quickly! One of the problems with breaking up a relationship is whether the couple involved want to try and stay friends once the relationship is over. Well ladies, when considering staying friends with your ex-boyfriend, the answer is that you shouldn’t. A lot of relationships start from people going from being friends to being more than friends, but this doesn’t mean that you will find it as easy to go back the other way. Break ups can be painful and this is especially true if you are still regularly seeing the person because you are constantly reminded of the pain and sadness caused by the breakup, or possibly of the anger you experienced during fights or arguments. Another big problem with staying friends once the relationship has ended is that even if it goes well and you stay close then in the end you will start to see what made you fall for him in the first place. "Over time you may forget the pain and only remember the good times and this will probably make you want to get him back, but getting back only gives you another opportunity to get hurt." This is a fact truly. Sometimes getting back together with your ex can work, but this is rarely the case because if you didn’t work as a couple the first time there won’t be anything different about you to stop it not working again. Ultimately by getting back with your ex-boyfriend you are probably just allowing yourself to go through another break up when all the things that you didn’t like about each other start to come to the surface and ruin the relationship again. If you manage to break up in a peaceful fashion or manage to work through the arguments that most probably took place and get to the stage where you could be friends again in the end it would just make you miss your ex-boyfriend. If the relationship had been a long term or serious one then there would be a lot of happy memories with him buried in your mind but every time you saw him they would come into your thoughts and make you want him back. Despite the fact that some people manage to stay friends with people they have been dating, it is by far the safest option to not stay friends with them because then you don’t risk all of the pain happening all over again. It is possible that your ex boyfriend could start to miss you too, but then as soon as you got back together he would remember why as a couple you didn’t work and then break your heart all over again. It may not seem easy but the best option in many cases is to lose contact and push all the pain of the breakup from your head. Humans are terrible at controlling their emotions and if you had regular contact with your ex boyfriend then in the end a spark would strike up again, whether it be serious or just physical but either way it sets you up for pain when it all breaks down again as it inevitably would. His intentions might well not be in any way selfish or bad, but if things have gone wrong in the past then there is nothing to stop it happening again so be selfish and protect yourself from hurt.
