In its initial period, shooting was considered as a royal game in Indian states like Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan Maharashtra, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi. The firearms were introduced in the country sometime in the 16th century by the invading armies of Mughal Dynasty and later by the British East India Company and the British Government in India. Apart from war and military purposes, shooting in India was also used for hunting it developed as an organized sport in India, only in the 19th century.
