President of internet elections – first time in history

To be the President of a big country like USA or Russia is very hard. But it is a very honourable and respectful position. You are responsible for the lives and well-being of millions people. The whole world knows you and your words worth their weight in gold. The media quotes you and people talk over you.
But what if you are responsible for the whole web-humanity? The number of people using internet today is over 1.5 billion people. Everyone of them can vote for you and make you the President of Internet.
This post supposes you to represent the whole internet community everywhere you go. You can be invited on TV and to conferences, meetings, summits with presidents and ministers etc. You can go around the world with your own message. And it`s up to you to decide what kind of message you deliver.
The Presidential duties are:
1. regular video appeals to internet users
2. adoption of a new internet constitution (there`s no counterparts yet)
3. participation in conferences (optional)
4. institution of prizes (there`s no Internet “Nobel Prize” yet)
5. formation of a new internet government (optional)
6. institution of new internet holidays
The work of President is very hard, but interesting. You will hardly have any free time.
It is well-known that a budget of election campaign for the presidency is very expensive all over the world. For example, Obama wants to collect as much as $1 billion this time. This sum of money is absolutely enormous. That is why there aren`t many candidates for the presidency.
President-Of-Internet.com is going to hold honest and transparent elections. It means that every internet user has a right to vote for the candidate he chooses. At the same time, any internet user can run for the presidency. It costs only $1 to become a candidate and to display your own promotional video. The election campaign has already started, but the voting itself will be held in June 2012.
Such elections are held for the first time in history. The idea itself is very fresh and creative, I would say. But of course, the position of the President Of Internet is nominal. It is similar to the position of the Queen of Great Britain. The Queen reigns, but not rules the country. The President of internet will only fulfill the above mentioned duties, having no military or economic power at all. At the same time he or she will be heard by the whole web humanity, thus having political and social power.
The idea of holding such elections seems to be rather stupid, but popular. Who knows what it will result in. Let`s wait and see. Wish you good luck!
