Do you know, in reality, you yourself are a Soul? Yes, your real Self is your Soul!!
When you say you are dead, it is the physical body that’s dead, and not you. By principle, anything that is born has to die. So death is connected to birth. The body was born one day, and hence will die one day. However, the Soul is a permanent entity, and that’s what you really are!

Nothing can work in the absence of the Soul.
As soon as the Soul leaves the body, the body is declared dead; and the Soul goes straight to its new destination (gets decided based on the karmas charged in this life), where rebirth of body takes place.
Hence, the Soul never dies for it is ever-lasting!! But as long as you have not become the Soul (Self-realized), if something were to happen to your body, you feel it has happened to you.

It is only when Gnani, the Enlightened One, explains in detail and with exactness, what the real facts are, do we come to know the exact truth. So come, let us try and understand some real facts related to the subject.

Param Pujya Dadabhagwan, an enlightened being states,
There are six eternal elements in this world. When these elements revolve around each other, the phases of the element occur automatically. We are seeing these phases; and due to wrong belief, we think, “I am this phase, I am this physical body”.

The Soul is one of the six elements. Soul is nothing but Absolute knowledge; only knowledge! The other elements too are powerful. But they do not have any knowledge or understanding. When the other element and the Soul come together, phases occur automatically.

Just like Sun, Moon and Earth revolve around each other, the phases of Moon occur – the first day of Moon, second day of Moon, third day of Moon, etc. Likewise, the phases of Soul and phases of the other element occur... and this whole world gets generated. Due to wrong belief, we think, “I am that (our name, body, etc.)”, and therefore charging of karma and discharging of karma happen. All of this takes place automatically.

He further reveals some interesting facts that tell us how the Soul operates within, without we being aware of its existence:
These birds, no matter how far they fly, are able to return to their home. How does that happen? It is because there are some areas where layers of ignorance on the Soul are not there at all. Even in human beings, husband is able to recognize his wife, wife is able to recognize her husband . This is because there are some portions of the Soul that never get covered (by any karmas). The Soul has infinite knowledge, but it has always been covered with karmas (barring the above-said specific regions). As and when some layer(s) of ignorance breaks, that much Knowledge gets exposed (in worldly life)! Ignorance is the force that makes us forget the Self.

Here’s how:-
Ignorance of Self means ignorance of “who am I’. Since countless lives, in any birth, we have never got realization of the Self. Moreover, in every life, people have given us ignorance only. From childhood, worldly people give us knowledge that “You are John (the reader may insert his own name here), you are son of so and so, you are Doctor, etc.” and we begin to believe, “I am John, I am son, and I am Doctor.” This wrong belief is called ignorance!

When Gnani, the Enlightened One, comes, and He gives the knowledge of ‘who am I’, your wrong belief of “I am John” gets fractured. You are really a Pure Soul only. And therefore you realize, “Oh! I am a Pure Soul.” All ignorance goes away and you experience Self-Realization.
Eg. A young son of king gets lost. (Not knowing who he is, as per what people tell him) he believes, “I am so and so, so and so.” Then, after five years, he comes back and (when King makes him realize), he realizes that “Oh! I am the son of King”. Because he was really a son of King. But since He got separated, he didn’t know ‘who am I’, and therefore believed what people told him.
When ignorance dissolves, you begin to experience what you actually are.
The experience of the full stage of Pure Soul is eternal bliss!

Now, after you come into the awareness of “Who am I?” the entire John (that has come into being) is a result of our past karma. We had charged those karmas in ignorance. And now, if we finish these karmas with equanimity, we will reach the full stage of Pure Soul!!

Conclusion:
Not being aware of our real Self, we all live and die in sheer ignorance of the nature of our own Self.
We may know so many things in this external world, but we do not know our own Self and the nature of our Self! Isn’t that strange?

If as a human being, one meets a Gnani Purush, only then one can acquire liberation. It is for this reason that even the celestial beings, amidst the bountiful luxuries, have an intense desire to acquire human form.

When we connect with Gnani, the body that had been a foe for endless previous births becomes an absolute friend of ours, for it is through this body, that we have met Gnani Purush!!! So come, let’s connect with Gnani as soon as we can, and get our real work done of liberating our Self from the cycle of death and rebirth...

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization
