For the purpose of applying machine-readable characters to a card for a long time, plastic card embossing is the only possible way. On the back side of the card, the single characters are “stamped” and hence they are visible on the front side as embossed or heightened characters.

Plastic Card Embossing is used on membership cards, gift cards, loyalty cards, card accessories, and many more surfaces. These cards basically offer a brand or business identity wherein an organization can get its name as well as logo or insignia also embossed. These days a wide variety of embossing designs are available and one can select the one that best matches their requirements. One of the advantages of Plastic card embossing is that it has resulted in more effective methods of machine-readable data, for example, magnetic stripes or bar codes.

As a high quality way of personalizing a plastic card, the technique of plastic card embossing remains to be popular. If requested, the embossed characters can be dyed in metallic colors thereby giving the card an even higher value.

Certain restrictions apply to embossing due to its international character. For example, only capital letters, a font size of 5 mm, the fonts Gothic and OCR, etc can be embossed. To emboss special characters and umlauts, however is not possible.

Metal plate embossing is another technique which as the name suggests is used on metal plates. These metals plates are very commonly used in a variety of industries. They are especially used in environments where durable product identification is required. Here direct part marking is not desired or feasible. The product can be attached with marked plates that require identification by various methods. These identification methods may include rivets, adhesive etc. Using conventional printing methods (silk screen, pad etc.), metal plates pre-marked with generic information can have unique data added at a later time using embossers or mechanical engraving methods.

The process can be completed in one step wherein complex logos, lines, boxes and generic plus unique data can be applied to a blank metal plate which is one of the many advantages of Lasers. It is actually a process through which a metal plate is marked by pressing the metal between a male and female die that is engraved with the desired character. Offering different sizes and fonts styles, various die sets are available.

For identifying products or tracking work in progress, metal plate embossing has become the standard. These days’ many companies produce metal plate embossers of high quality that makes embossing or debossing these metal tags easy. Stainless Steel, carbon Steel, titanium, aluminum, copper, brass, gold, etc are some surfaces on which metal plate embossers can work.

Chemical resistant, metal plates can survive outside for extended times and can bear extreme heat. In environments too harsh for paper or plastic labels to last, they provide for long-term identification.
