Those times in biz life when you want to scream and give up.. Just had one of those!! You know what I mean…Heart racing, eyes popping out… ohhh what is like to be an Entrepreneur! So let me tell you about this moment…
I am talking to this great friend of mine over Skype when all of a sudden I get this message saying … ‘ We need to cancel the event and postpone!!’ … You can imagine what happened there!... it was one of those cartoon moments with the eyes popping out of their sockets.. ARGHHHHHHHHH!!… So I hang up my call and get onto a frantic state of mind… Luckily I was able to calm the situation and we are back to normal.
If someone told me being an Entrepreneur was going to bring in the eye popping feeling every so often I don’t know if I would have become one at the time! I can see why people stick to just a normal 9-5 job, where all you do is go to work and get a paycheck at the end of it… but that is what the average Joe does and I have always wanted more in life.
I mean, there is nothing wrong with being average if that is what truly makes you happy… I have no problem with that at all! But for me personally, I need more than sitting at a desk, or standing up in a shop floor, which by the way I have done it all! Tried it and tested and it just wasn’t for me.
The Thrill of being your own boss, the one that makes every decision that counts, its exhilarating… but nonetheless stressful at times!! I can see why so many millionaires and billionaires are bald! Cuz you feel like pulling your hair out a lot of times! But the feeling when things come together is worth every single sweat, tear and heart stopping moment.
As I am writing this I am in bed with the laptop in my lap… as it is 03:20 in the morning… a usual time for me to be awake. I am relatively new when it comes to technically owning my own business even though I was self employed before. There is a difference between self employment and owning your company as now I get to delegate to others and not do it all myself, hence being able to enjoy life more.
I am pretty sure as the next few years come across, I will deal with moments like this one in a different manner, as there will be plenty of them when things are about to fall apart, then they come together. That is where experience works its way in. New situations have to come quite a few times for you to learn to deal with them. I remember telling another Entrepreneur about it who was much more experienced than me and his reply was ‘ don’t worry about it too much, it’s all good ‘ as if it was nothing!! .. For the first few seconds I was thinking… ‘What?!!!.. You kidding me right now? Didn’t you hear what I just said?... ‘ Then a few seconds later I remember he has been through it lots of times and it works out in the end. He just doesn’t need to get the eye popping feeling anymore.
Being an Entrepreneur is what helps you go from Ordinary to extraordinary. It’s about taking charge of every moment of your life. You only live once, so why allow others to decide how you should spend your time doing what you love?, When you can go for lunch? Or when you get your next paycheck? . Entrepreneurs see opportunities, and yes they do fail! But they simply think ‘ oh well, that didn’t work, let’s try it another way, or let’s move onto the next one’.
The Entrepreneurs of today have failed many times and gone through moments where quitting was the next best thing. But if they have quit, we would not have some of the biggest brands and products in the world… What if Thomas Edison had given up?! Do you know he held a world record of 1093 patents, which include the invention of the light bulb and the phonograph? (Well he improved the original version created by Englishman Humphry Davy when it came to the light bulb, as Day invented the first electric light bulb but Edison invented the first commercial practical incandescent light after improving it)
And there are many many more inventions that came from Entrepreneurs after not giving up. They all had the same moments I did today and knowing that, will always keep me going when I feel like I should throw in the towel.
So if you are a new Entrepreneur and you feel like giving up.. Please don’t! Remember the ones who never gave up as everything we use today from cars to cellphones and our precious laptops came from Entrepreneurs who never gave up.
Keep going my fellow visionaries! Let’s do it!
