Primary care model is ideal for some situations where direct patient care is needed. These situations include intensive care units and other master operational care units where most of the patients are unconscious and therefore in need of assisted care at all times. The implementation of this model is costly and can lead to high work-related stress due to the continuous requirement of nursing care from the same professional.

Total patient care model is another nursing care delivery model that seems to fit in both primary care model and team care model. Different registered nurses take turns on the care of patients through a schedule that achieves both individualized care for the patients and good working conditions for the nurses through the provision of breaks and shifts. The patient also gets the opportunity to have their care decided by different professionals which ensures the provision of individualized management based on evidence-based practice.
