American Airlines which was started in 1930 as American Airways commenced its operations in 1934, the fifth largest airline company in the world today on the basis of passenger miles, number of people transported and also the revenue, is part of AMR Corporation and it operates from five hubs in the US, namely

American Airlines operates a fleet size of 604 serving 260 international destinations, excluding the destinations operated through Code Share Agreements, has its company slogan as ‘We know why you fly’.

American Airlines has signed Code share agreements with 17 international airline companies, apart from its One world alliance code shares, it has also announced its partnership with JetBlue airlines and its frequent flyer program is AAdvantage.

In the inflight arrangements, American Airlines offers on board program selling sandwiches and snacks for a price in its domestic flights and flights to Canada, Central America and areas in the Caribbean and while the alcoholic beverages are free for First and Business class passengers, non-alcoholic beverages are serve free for all classes, the Head Sets are priced at $2 and the packet containing a pillow and blanket is sold at $ 8 per packet in its international flights.

Northwest Airlines was founded in 1926 as Northwest Airways, however it ceased its operations in 2008 after its merger with Delta Airlines, although it continued its operations until 2010 till completion of merger process, its operations having been from the following hubs:
•Minneapolis –St Paul International Airport from 1926 to 2010
•Haneda Airport from 1947 to 1978
•Narita International Airport from 1978 to 2010
•Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport from 1986 to 2010
•Memphis International Airport
•Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from 1993 to 2010

Northwest Airlines had a fleet size of 320 at the time of merger and it was serving 254 destinations at that point of time, having alliance with Skyteam, bearing a company slogan Now you’re flying smart, and as of March 2009 it had code share agreements with 20 international airline companies.

Northwest Airlines operated its flights with four cabin classes, namely World Business Class, Domestic First Class, International Economy Class and Domestic Economy Class, and in respect of inflight catering the first three classes received free meal and alcoholic beverages , while for the Domestic Economy class passengers received snacks for a price on board.

In 2008 Northwest Airlines announced its merger with Delta Airlines with the purpose of making it world’s largest Airline company.
