Volvo made the second generation S60 available to order from early 2010, it is the first model to demonstrate Volvo’s new design philosophy. The Volvo S60 is competing in a very competitive premium executive saloon market which consists of the Mercedes C Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, historically the Volvo S40 would have competed against these rivals but, Volvo is having a model realignment.

Now Volvo has released the new R-Design models for the S60 and V60 range. The R-Design models have been created to deliver a dynamic and sporty driving experience in a coupe-style saloon or flexible Sports-wagon (estate). The new models are not just about sporty looks; they have a specially developed chassis to ensure that the driving experience matches the car's sporting appearance.

Volvo predicts that the R-Design models will be a big hit in the UK as they are set to appeal to those British buyers who appreciate the sporting driving characteristics and enhanced styling on offer. Volvo has also stated that the new R-Design models will account for 60% of some model lines and 25% of all models overall.

The new R-Design models will not be restricted to just top end model variants; it will be available to all model specifications no matter whether it is the 2.0 litre D3 or the range topping high performance T6.

Having seen a few of these R-Design models on the road already, I am convinced many used Volvo S60 drivers will be eager to trade in their old Volvo and get in a new R-Design model.
