The first time I heard about hypnotic copywriting, I feel in love with the concept...but I’ve also run into a lot of people who are sceptical that it even exists. I get emails from people all the time who tell me that they’re having a hard time finding good material on hypnotic copywriting, and yet there are plenty of people advertising covert hypnosis and conversational hypnosis and “secrets of subliminal persuasion.” So if this mysterious hypnotic writing exists, where are all the experts and concrete examples?

In this article, I’ll be talking about the concept of hypnotic copywriting and why some people are confused about it. After reading this, you’ll have a much firmer understanding of how you can start learning and applying the principles of hypnosis in your copywriting and your selling.

The Rather Boring Truth About Hypnosis

Hypnosis is manipulation while under trance, plain and simple. Anytime you manipulate a person’s thought process while they are in a trance like state, you have, to some degree at least, hypnotized them. Most people go through their lives doing this to others without even realizing that they’re doing it. There are millions of ways to hypnotize and manipulate others, and you don’t have to be a professional to use these techniques. What professionally trained hypnotists do is develop a specific process for inducing trance and for manipulating people while under trance, and they’re VERY deliberate about the process.

However, hypnosis and trance induction in itself isn’t really that uncommon. What’s uncommon is people who are consciously aware of how to do it, which obviously gives them less control over it. So your first step to learning the art of hypnotic copywriting to understand exactly what you’re doing by hypnotizing someone. It begins with understanding trance induction...

What is Trance Induction?

Trance is a heightened emotional state which causes someone to operate more out of their emotions than out of their reasoning mind. This heightened emotional state can be one of anger, excitement, bliss, frustration or any other powerful emotion. During a trance, the subject can be wide awake and completely aware of what’s going on. This is why creating an emotional “synthetic experience” is the most important skill of any top sales person. Learn to deliberately do this by appealing to the basic buying emotions of validation, excitement an security, and you’re in the money.

This is the foundation of “hypnotic copywriting” and in reality, it’s really nothing more than good salesmanship. Calling it hypnotic just sounds more seductive, and I suppose that gives it a hypnotic quality which makes it easier for people selling product on how to become a better copywriter. More power to them, but don’t be fooled, it’s simpler than it sounds.
