It is a condition which affects woman’s hormone. Women with this problem tend to produce higher than usual amount of male hormone. It makes them skip their periods and makes it harder to get pregnant eventually. It also causes extra hair growth on the face due to hormonal imbalance. Causes of PCOS

1. Irregular periods - irregular or infrequent menstrual cycles that are prolonged in their activity are the most common signs of PCOS. It may mean that the number of times you have a period is less than nine times in a year or your period happens in more than thirty forty days every month. Heavy and abnormal periods are also a sign of PCOS.
2 Excess facial hair – excess androgen in the body leads to growth of excessive facial hair on a woman. It can also be seen as male patterned baldness or acne. All this may be signs that you have PCOS. It may also cause excess darkening of the skin and form of body creases in the groins or under the breast.
3. Heavy weight – excessive weight Is often connected to PCOS. Up to eighty percent of the women with PCOS are obese. This does not essentially mean that heavy weight women have PCOS. It is the other way around, however it is helpful to figure out if it is combined with other above-mentioned symptoms as well.

Treatment of PCOS

There is no one single PCOS Treatment which ensures that your androgen level is normalized. Instead of this various other medical treatment that tend to reduce the affects of PCOS are done of women. This includes –
1. metformin – It is a drug which is used to control level 2 diabetes. It also treats PCOS by improving the level of insulin in the body which is a common cause for PCOS. Taking this drug while controlling the diet and exercising to have weight loss restores the normal period cycle also which is a very big affect of PCOS.
2. Hair removal Medicines- one of the major effects of PCOS is hair growth on face and other body parts. One can get rid of these by having prescribed drugs which are essentially meant to reduce hair caused due to these diseases. This way you can get rid of the unwanted hair and body.
3. Fertility treatments- if women with PCOS want to conceive a baby, which is very difficult considering the high level of androgen in the body, then the best method is assistive reproductive technology like IVF. It helps in pregnancy and is effective more than any other pregnancy fertility treatment.
