Introduction

Spray gun and roller do have a significant difference, they both their pros and cons, but it mainly depends on what you want to paint on.

In this article, I will be telling you some general differences between them both and why a spray gun is more liked than a roller.

Roller

Why people go for it?

One of the good things about having a paint roller is that the roller frame and foam are typically inexpensive. It can be applied evenly to a large area as long as the surface is flat. Since you can see the edges of the roller, so you can apply paint more precisely and know exactly where the paint will go. Finally, the best part of the roller is the ability to attach a pole to reach higher areas.

  • Drawbacks

However, it’s not always a good idea, depending upon the surface you are dealing with. If your surface is not flat, you’ll have an uneven coverage, and because of that, it requires more coats of paint which drives up the cost. If you have pinholes and crevices on the surface, it takes a lot more effort to get that covered up. Moreover, if you have to paint a different color, you will have to use a different roller; a roller is not reusable.

Spray gun

  • Why spray gun?

With a spray gun, overall, you use a lot less paint. The spray gun is cleaned properly and can be used over and over again. A spray gun provides even coverage to any surface area. Over that, it works perfectly over the uneven or block wall to get into crevices and pinhole. A spray gun does the work a lot faster than the roller, which is a very attractive plus point of it.

  • Drawbacks

However, there are some reasons why a spray gun is not a good option. It does a lot of over-spray; it will get onto adjacent surfaces such as the ceiling or the floor, which is why you will need a lot of prep work to mask off all the areas that you don’t want the paint to get on. This also means that there is a lot of clean-up afterward when you are done painting. Even though spray gun is cost-effective in the long run, it does have a higher initial cost. So, if you are looking to paint small areas, a paint roller might be a better option. It can only go as far as the length of your arm.

Conclusion

For some people, a spray gun is more suitable, while others prefer rollers. It all depends on the comfort level of the painter.
