Getting stuck into an exciting project is a great feeling, but might you need to take a step back at times? There are some situations in which taking a few days away from it can help you.

Take a look at the following cases in which getting a break from the project might be of benefit to you. Can you relate any of them to your current situation? If so, what can you do about it? A PRINCE2 training can help rationalise your decisions.

You Are Losing Focus

There are a number of reasons why you might find that you start to lose focus on one of your projects. Maybe you have got too close to the details and have forgotten all about the big picture that you started with? Or perhaps you have been juggling too many things and have lost your way a little?

No matter what the reason for this is, it is important that you work hard to get your focus back. This can be done by going back to basics and understanding what it is meant to achieve and what benefits it can ultimately bring to the business. Have you forgotten who is meant to benefit and in what way?

This issue is clearly more of a risk on long, complicated pieces of work that run and run for a long time. It is fair to say that it can also be a problem on a fairly dull, repetitive project too. However, the fact is that there is a risk of you losing focus on any type of projects that you take on.

You Need to Concentrate on Your Training Needs

If things are going wrong or you are worried about the future of the project then it could be because you have been neglecting your training needs. This usually means that a big problem could be on the way before too long, as you run into something you can't handle.

Taking a step back to meet your training needs is a great move for a couple of different reasons. Firstly, if you take some time off to sort out your PRINCE2 Course then this is going to increase your knowledge and confidence. In addition, the time away from your work might help you to clear your head too.

Don't forget that everyone else in your team has training needs to be met as well. If you want to keep the project moving along smoothly then you have to take them into account too. After all, the greater the variety of skills in your team, the easier it is going to be to handle whatever comes your way.

You Are Getting Too Stressed Out

There is no denying that projects can be highly stressful. You may not have even noticed as your anxiety levels kept growing with every passing meeting or missed milestone. This can end up taking a heavy toll on your health as well as on your work, so you need to work out how to take a step back in this case.

A few days holiday can work wonders in this respect. If you are tired as well as stressed then you will probably come back refreshed and ready to sort out anything that has been going wrong lately.

You might also switch to something else for a couple of days. If there is something more relaxing that you can do in the meantime then it makes sense to move to this for a while. You might find that when you go back to the original project it doesn't look anywhere near as bad as you remember it being. Mentoring on a certified PRINCE2 course is a great way to help this.
