UK Partner Visa, also known as a UK Marriage Visa, is a settlement visa, which allows them to live with their British partner in the UK for up to 30 months. If they meet certain eligibility conditions, it may be extended to another 30 months. The first step towards indefinite leave to remain (ILR) and finally, British Citizenship is the keeping of a Partner Visa. To apply for a marriage visa, they must be married to a British resident, a UK settled person or a UK refugee, or in a civil union with that citizen. The key eligibility requirements include presenting evidence that individuals are in a true partnership and meet clear financial conditions.

People may apply for this visa if they are married to a British citizen or someone in the UK who has a right to live and work or settlement status. Initially, they are allowed to stay and work in the UK for two-and-a-half years, and they may even leave and re-enter the country several times. At the end of the two and a half years, they can apply for a further two and a half years to extend their stay in the UK.

In any of the following cases, persons can also qualify as dependents:

• They’re married or in a long-term relationship with someone who's holding UK ancestry.
• They are married by Tier 4 immigration or in a long-term relationship with someone in the UK.
• They are married to someone who holds a work permit, or in a long-term relationship.
• They are married through Tier 1 immigration or in a long-term relationship with someone in the UK.

These applications must come from the country of residence or the country of origin. If they are on a visa other than a visit visa in the UK, they may turn to the UK based or spousal visa.

People may apply for this UK Partner visa if they have a long-term relationship with a British citizen or a person entitled to live and work or settlement status in the United Kingdom. Couples must be able to provide evidence that they have lived together for two years or more in a relationship akin to marriage.
