Make your home fabulous on the cheap! Contrary, to what people believe, you do not need a lot of money to give your home or apartment a designer flare. Buying cheap fabric is a simple way to add drama to the home with accent pieces. These extra touches are easy to make home with limited crafting skills.

The key to purchasing inexpensive fabric with a high quality look that knows how to shop. Go to the fabric store and look for the remnants section. The remnant section will have the last yard or so of fabric on reams from every section of the fabric store. There is often a wide variety of choices of all quality types. You can pick through the discount section for a colour and pattern choice that compliments your home décor. Because there is enough fabric for a large project the fabric is priced at a deep discount. For the following home décor projects, a little goes a long way with fabric:

Create a Grand Headboard for the Master Bedroom – The bed is the focal point of the bedroom. Just adding a padded headboard can bring contemporary flare to the space. Cut out enough 12” x 12” squares from MDF wood to span the width of the bed and two to three rows high. Cover each piece of wood with padding and staple it down securely. Cut out the pieces of remnant fabric in 13” x 13” inch squares. Neatly cover each padded board with the fabric, pulling tightly around the edges and stapling. Use all the same fabric or a couple of different complimentary solids and or patterns. Hang on the wall equidistance apart for a crisp grid pattern. The cheap fabric will add instant drama to the space.

Adorn the Walls with Artwork – Fabric comes in many interesting colours and designs. A pattern that may seem overpowering on a dress can make a wonderful statement wall décor. Purchase picture frames that come with matting. Move the matting around on the fabric until what is displayed in the square is picture perfect. Trace around the outside of the matting to make a pattern and cut out the fabric piece. Place the fabric in the frame for instant art. Create several complimenting fabric pictures for a wall collection.

Add Pop to the living room with Accent Pillows – Accent pillows are the perfect finishing touch to the living room. They can be used to add drama and personality to a bland sofa or modernize a dated or loud colour with neutral tones. Making accent pillows are the perfect size for the cheap fabric found in a remnant pile. Purchase pillow forms the right size for your furniture. Cut the front piece of the fabric one inch longer and higher than the size of the pillow. The back of the pillow fabric is cut the width of the front piece, and four inches more than the length. Sew up the pillow, stuff, and voila! The living room has an instant update.

You can add Flair to the Dining Room Table Setting – A well decorated table adds personality to the dining room. Choose an attractive material with a polyester cotton blend for luxurious fabric napkins. They are extremely easy to make and add a touch of class to your table setting. Cut the fabric in 16 ½ square inches. Fold and iron press the inseam, to sew a perfect 16 inch dessert napkin. Add more personality with coordinating placemats in the fabric of your choice, from 12-13 inches by 18-20 inches. Either sew or double side tape the fabric edges to finish.
