The article discusses the procedure of setting up Android Debug Bridge (ADB) on a Windows computer. ADB is a command line program that comes pre-integrated with Android devices and lets you communicate or manage them. Though it is easy to setup and use ADB on your Windows PC, you might still stumble upon problems.

Considering this, we have compiled some instructions that are reliable and simple. However, it is recommended that these should be followed carefully to avoid facing problems. This will, at the same time, will save your previous time and money that would indeed be spent looking for Android support or Microsoft support options.

Instructions:

Before you begin, ensure that you have an active internet connection as it will be required to download the Android SDK (Software Development Kit). You must also create a System Restore Point before making such changes. Now the first thing that should be done is to enable the USB debugging in your Android phone.

Navigate to the Menu> Application> and Development. In the Development settings screen, hit the Enable USB Debugging button or link. Alternatively, you can navigate to Settings> Applications> and Development and activate the service.

When done enabling the USB debug, download the Android SDK file from the ‘developer.android.com/sdk’ website. Simply type the given link without quotes in the address bar of your web browser and hit Enter. It will then take you to the website. Click on the desired link for Windows to start the download.

Click on the Save File button when prompted. Choose a location like Desktop to save the file. When done, right click on the SDK Setup.exe file icon and click to select the Extract all option. Follow the Extraction Wizard’s instructions and save the contents of this file to another file or folder. Save the extracted file on the Desktop for easily recognition.

When done, open the file and start the setup procedure.
Follow the on screen instructions and complete installation. If you are running the SDK Manager for the first time, your might be prompted to install additional packages and features. Reject them all and install only the Android SDK Platform tools package.

When done installing the package, double click on the icon and open it. In the Android SDK and AVD Manager window, click on the Available packages link in the left hand pane. Click the (+) sign beside Third party Add-ons and then beside Google Inc. (dl-ssl.google.com). Put a checkmark next to the USB Driver Package and then hit the Install Selected button.

Follow the on screen prompts and wait for the drivers to be installed. Do not close any window while the installation is going on. When the installation has finished, exit all the windows.

Now plug your Android phone into your Windows computer using the USB cable. When prompted with a new hardware installation message, select drivers from the android-sdk/usb_driver folder. Follow the prompts and complete updating and installation. Now your Android phone will start appearing under ADB Interface in the Device Manager application.

Besides, ADB will appear there in the android-sdk/tools folder. If the new hardware found wizard doesn’t open after plugging the phone in, go to Device Manager and locate the drivers under there.

Additional Tips:

You can optionally add the Android SDK Platform tools package to your Windows path (directory). You can check the ‘java.com/en/download/help/path’ website to know the procedure.
