Figuring out if a guy is "the one" is difficult, because every person and every relationship is different. There is no exact list of traits or definite signs to tell you that the guy you are dating is who you are meant to be with. A guy could look great on paper, but that doesn't necessarily mean he is the one for you. This is one area where it is important to take your feelings into account because finding Mr. Right should be something that you feel in your heart rather than know in your mind.

Finding "the one" isn't just about finding the perfect guy; it's about building the one relationship that will last the rest of your life. It's not just about him or you; it's about the two of you together. The best relationships form between two people who have shared interests, values and goals. If you are interested in a guy who does not share any of these with you, your relationship will probably not make it in the long run. There has to be something to unite you both here and in the future. If you are not working toward the same goals, then what are you working toward? Ultimately, there are three topics that can make or break a relationship: politics, religion and kids. At the end of the day, no matter how hard you may try to pretend that these things don't matter, they do. Before you decide to spend the rest of your lives together, figure out your compatibility in these three areas.

Mr. Right should be someone that you are or could be friends with. You don't have to fall in love with one of your best friends, but he should ultimately become your best friend. If you can't see yourself being friends with him outside of the relationship, that's not a good sign. He should also be someone that you are completely comfortable with and someone who loves you for you. If he is not falling in love with the real you because you aren't being true to yourself in the relationship, then he is not "the one." When you find "the one" you should want to know absolutely everything there is to know about him and you should want him to know the same things about you.

If your family and friends approve of your potential Mr. Right, that is definitely a good sign as well as if you feel comfortable with his family and friends. You should also look for a guy who openly discusses the future and is willing to make sacrifices or compromises. A friend once told me "you know a guy is the one for you when he gives you the last bite." Most importantly, he should love you for exactly who you are. He will never try to change you, but he will also give you the room to grow and change on your own.
