Burning tummy fat remains the top health priorities for millions of people across the globe.Ayurveda, the ancient science of life and longevity helps in reducing belly fat as well as curbing many lifestyle diseases.The excess belly fat is linked to an increased risk of many serious health conditions such as heart diseases, diabetes etc.

  • According to Ayurveda, belly fat is a result of vitiated Kapha Dosha.Ayurveda recommends some dietary changes to get rid of bulging stomach. Belly fat can be reduced by following an active lifestyle and taking healthy diet.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Reducing Fat

  • Ayurvedic Remedies for fat reduction involves detoxification because most of the toxins and chemicals are stored in the fatty deposits of the body.  It is the way of getting rid of impurities that enters the body and hence reducing fat too.

  • It should be understood that belly fat does not reduce overnight but it is possible to reduce belly fat by following below mentioned Ayurvedic methods.These are:

Any herb that increases metabolism is recommended for cutting belly fat.

1. Exercise

  • Simple exercises such as brisk walking, swimming, cycling, jogging, running should be done regularly as exercise helps in reducing belly fat.
  • Exercise not only helps to lose belly fat but it also sheds fat from other areas too.

2.Water

  • Drinking water can contribute significantly to reduce belly fat as it helps in flushing out the toxins and boosts metabolism as well.

3.Triphala Powder

  • Add one teaspoonful of Triphala powder to water and boil it. Drink this water regularly once a day. Honey can be added to this mixture.

3. Avoid Sugar and Salt

  • According to Ayurveda, certain foods increase Kapha dosha in the body. So, such types of foods should be avoided that increase Kapha and medha.
  • These foods include carbonated drinks, sweets, oil-rich foods, ice-creams, desserts etc.
  • The regular use of synthetic sugar-based products such as canned drinks and beverages, canned juices leads to obesity and its associated problems.
  • Excess salt in food enhances water retention in the body that may increase belly fat. So, the use of salt should be restricted.

4. Lemon Water

  • Add a lemon juice in a glass of lukewarm water. Drink lemon juice on an empty stomach in the morning.
  • Lemon juice helps in boosting the metabolism and to get rid of belly fat.

5. Dalchini (Cinnamon)

  • Cinnamon helps in stimulating the metabolism which further helps in cutting the belly fat.
  • The cinnamaldehyde present in cinnamon helps in stimulating the metabolism of fat.
  • Drink a cup of cinnamon tea in the morning or in the evening.

6. Fenugreek (Methi) seeds

  • Fenugreek seeds have numerous health benefits as these seeds support digestion.It is reported that galactomannan is a water- soluble component found in fenugreek seeds which helps in increasing the metabolic rate of the body.

How to use

  • Roast some methi seeds and crush them to make a fine powder. Take 1/2 teaspoonful of this powder on an empty stomach in the morning or soak methi seeds overnight. Drink this water and chew the soaked seeds on an empty stomach.

7. Sprouts

  • Sprouts are full of fiber and roughage which gives the feeling of fullness of stomach for longer periods of time.
  • So, make the habit of eating sprouts instead of taking tea twice or thrice a day.

8. Lukewarm Water

  • Drinking lukewarm water helps in burning fat especially in the abdominal region.
  • Do not drink water just after taking food as water discourages the action of digestive enzymes and juices which results in impaired digestion.

9. Buttermilk

  • Consuming buttermilk in the breakfast also helps in reducing belly fat.
  • Take 20 gm ajwain, 20 g rock salt, 20 g cumin seeds, 20 g black pepper. Add all these ingredients in a glass of buttermilk and take it in the breakfast.

Recommeneded Spices

  • Add spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper while cooking as these spices are loaded with various health benefits.

How Yoga helps in Reducing Belly Fat?

Yoga and Ayurveda are inter-related. In order to reduce belly fat, one should follow an active lifestyle and exercise regularly. There are some yoga exercises that help in reducing belly fat. These are:

  1. Paschimottanasana or The Posterior Stretch
  2. Pawanmuktasan or The Anti-Flatus Pose

1. Paschimottanasana:

  • The word "Paschim" means your back and "Uttana" means stretching. This asana is very beneficial for cutting down belly fat as the suspension of breath during twisted position improves the venous blood flow in the abdominal region.
  • Moreover, twisting action of this asana helps in reducing the side fats around the abdominal region.

What are the Steps of Paschimottansana?

  • Sit straight and stretch both the legs outwards and the toes should remain together pointing in a forward direction.
  • Raise your arms while inhaling and bend the body in forward position as far as possible during exhaling.
  • Now, the fingers which are interlocked should be beyond the toes and nose should touch the knees.
  • In the initial stages, practice it for 5 seconds and gradually increase the duration of the pose.

Contraindications: It should not be performed in  conditions such as asthma, abdominal ulcers, back injury, pregnancy, sciatica and slipped

2. Pawanmuktasana:

  • Practicing pawanmuktasana regularly helps in reducing the flabby abdomen.
  • It also improves the functions of abdominal viscera and tones the abdominal muscles as well.
  • This asana is also useful in relieving gas from the abdomen.

What are the steps of Pawanmuktasana?

  • Lie down on the back with feet together and hands on the side of the thighs. Do not tighten the body and be in a comfortable position.
  • Now, inhale and raise the first leg, exhale and bring back the left knee towards the chest and press the thigh on the abdomen with clasped hands.
  • Lift the head and chest off the floor and touch the chin to the left knee. Hold the position and take deep and long breaths in and out.
  • Try to remain in this yogic position as long as possible.
  • Repeat the same procedure with right leg also.

Contraindications: It should not be performed in conditions such as high blood pressure, disorders related to neck, heart problems, slip disc etc.
