Feedback is most important to figure out whether we are achieving what we are aiming for and how we can improve on the weak areas. But out-of-date performance appraisal is just not welcomed because we are used to getting regular feedbacks and intimations online.

Think about the performance appraisal process. How it is conducted in your company? Whether it is dull or vibrant? Do people actually look forward to it or are they doing it just for the sake? It is the best way to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to go in future.
Excellence is an attitude
Assess your attitude towards the job. What value does the process hold for you? Go through the review seriously and grab all the opportunities to plan what you want to do next in your work. If you are serious about the current job, you have to seriously determine these things. if not, then this is the right time to look for something you are genuinely interested in.
Create a wish list
The best way is to create a map of your future career as to what you are expecting out of your performance review? Work on finding the opportunities to learn and develop your skills.
Face-to-face communication has no substitute
If you are due your review, make sure it happens. Insist on having a face-t-face discussion. Set a meeting with your boss in order to get a productive feedback about your work, putting forward your grievances and getting solutions to enhance the skills.
Getting prepared
Preparing for the performance review is must. Whether your boss is prepared or not, make sure you are fully armed. Collect relevant information and source evidence to prove that you are meeting the assigned objectives. If you are involved in lot of different tasks, note them all down and flaunt it sensibly. Be specific and clear what you want out of your discussion.
To do list: Follow-up and follow-up
Making notes is an utmost important step for both the parties involved. These are not just the record but they are the parameters to ensure your key targets are met. Always thank your boss after the performance review and explain why the review worked for you.
Look up to the future
Be actively involved in the process by setting out a plan and list of objectives. Get it signed off by your boss and brainstorm about how to achieve them successfully. Be in touch with your manager regularly and report back with the results.
Persistency is the key
Your boss may be tied up with other works or doesn’t stick to the promises- It is you who has to do follow up and get what you want.
