HOW TO DEVELOP A PRAYER LIFE

Prayer: An act of communicating with God.

I Thessalonians 5:17 PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

Did you know that God has many ways of communicating with us, but there are only a few ways that we can communicate with him? Prayer, Praise & Worship are the key elements that usher us into the presence of Almighty God. This is what touches the heart of God, and therefore our ultimate goal should be to commune with him as often as possible.

It is important that every believer understands the power and importance of prayer, and all that it entails, because it is through our prayers that we are able to commune with God and develop a long and lasting relationship with him. So many times we tend to rely on others to do for us, what we should do for ourselves, especially as it relates to prayer and our relationship with God.
There is nothing wrong with soliciting the prayers of others to pray for us, but at some point in our lives we need to know how to talk to God for ourselves. It is not hard at all to talk to him, and we’ve all heard that he is just a prayer away.

Scripture tells us that men ought always pray, and that we’re to pray without ceasing, so what that is saying is that we should always have a prayer in our heart, and a praise on our lips. This puts us in constant contact with him at all times, and what better place to be in.

Prayer is the heart of our relationship with God, so if we neglect to pray on a regular basis that can possibly hinder our spiritual growth. We should set aside time each day, just for God. One of the first and last things we should do every day is give reverence to our Great God because he is truly worthy of our praise. Acknowledging God shows him first hand that we love, and trust him to take care of us, and provide our every need.

Our relationship with God has to be built on a solid and firm foundation. We can’t be inconsistent in our relationship with him, and expect him to be consistent with us in those areas where we need him to work for us. That is to say that we should be as faithful to God, as he is to us.

Have you examined your prayer life lately? Are you spending quality time in his presence? Are you seeking his will for your life? I ask these questions because your answer is key to helping you recognize your short comings, as it relates to prayer, and it allows you to come up in those areas.

It’s easy for us to say that we love the Lord and we trust him. That’s all well and good, but it is a totally different story if we never show tell how much we really love him. How often do you tell him how mush he really means to you, or how thankful you are for all that he does for you, and that he loves you? God wants to hear from us, and build a strong personal relationship with us. When we are in right relationship with him, it makes it easy for us to express our genuine love for him.

For instance: think back to the time when you fell in love with someone. You wanted to be with them every waking minute. You couldn’t eat nor sleep if you didn’t hear from them from the time you woke up until the time you went to bed. Even then you would talk on the phone, go to sleep, wake up, hear that person snoring on the other end, but you were satisfied just knowing that they were there.

Well that’s the kind of relationship we should desire when it comes to spending time with the Lord. Don’t ever allow yourself to get so busy, that you neglect to spend time in fervent prayer. It’s our prayers that move God into action. He’s always waiting to hear, even the faintest cry of his children, and I can guarantee you, he will answer every time.

By committing ourselves to spending time with God, proves by our actions that we love, and trust him, in every area of our lives. Do you realize that Jesus prayed constantly, and consistently! Why do you think that is? Because he knew the significance, and importance of prayer. His relationship with Father God meant so much to him, that he felt the need to be in constant contact with him. It was nothing for him to steal away for days at a time just to be in the presence of his Father, and that’s the way it should be with us. We should never be too busy to talk to God.

Let us begin today to rekindle our relationship with God by rethinking our commitment to him, and making our prayer time a time of refreshing. Think of something that he’s done for you within the last 24 hours, and thank him for it. You’ll find that when you talk to him, he will talk back to you. Don’t let another day go by, without saying a sweet prayer to your heavenly Father. It’s our prayers that touch the heart of God. Prayer is the key, and faith unlocks the door. Prayer is the relationship that he treasures above anything else that we can say or do.

When we pray, we have to know beyond a shadow of doubt that everything is going to be alright, simply because God said it would, and he is not slack concerning his promises. Resolve to spend quality time in the presence of God. Do whatever you need to do to commit to time with God.
