Steps to Clean Up Window 7

Step 1
Organizing the Taskbar and Notification Area
Click at the Notification Area, select Customize, then select "Only show notifications" from the "Behaviors" column, it will get rid of unnecessary system icons like touchpad pointing device icon for laptop users and the Windows 7 Action Center, then click OK.

Step 2
Now right click on the Taskbar, point the Toolbars and click on the check box to uncheck the toolbars that you want to remove from the Taskbar like the links and address toolbar.

Click on the close button at the top right corner of duplicate Gadgets, to get rid of similar radio gadgets and those that you haven’t used in a week or longer. Press CTRL key, holding it, click on the desire icons to select unused desktop shortcuts icons and press Delete key to remove. To pin the frequently used desktop shortcut icons, Click and drag the icon to the Taskbar.

Go to the Start button, click on Control Panel. Browse through the Control Panel and Click on System. From System and Security section, click on the System Protection, then click at the System Protection tab from the System Properties box. Now click on Configure, click on Delete button which is next to the Delete all restore points, then click "OK" and close the Control Panel.

Click on the Start button and click on the Search for files box, there type "%temp%" and hit enter, a new window will appears, there click on Temp from the list. Press Ctrl with A to select all the files listed in that folder, then press the SHIFT and DELETE key all together and hit enter to delete the temp file permanently.

Running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmentation can increase the performance of your computer and can free up some space. To do this, click on the start button, go to all programs, click Accessories, go to the system tool. Now click on the disk clean up keeping the default files checked in the Disk Cleanup and press Ok. Click on "Delete files" in the confirmation window. Open the Disk Defragmenter utility and click on Analyze Disk for the primary drive "C:", then Select the Disk Defragmentation option.

Step 7
Optimizing the Windows 7 startup In the search box, type msconfig and press Enter button that will open the System Configuration utility Window. Select Services and click the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox. Click on Disable all to disable all other services that start during system startup and Apply. Now click on Startup tab and go through the list of programs and applications that runs automatically during startup. Uncheck unnecessary programs like music player, games etc. then click on Apply, press Ok and restart the computer.
