When you are happy, you are naturally confident, and this is not possible unless you have your ego level at its minimum! Always remember, ego brings only ruin. Arrogance ends our wisdom. Those who are consumed by ego are bound to suffer and bound to be doomed one day.

So come, lets learn the easy ways to be happy and confident, but without boosting our ego.

1.Surround yourself with the right set of friends who can positively influence you. The right kind of friends are those who always motivate you to be hard working and achieve good results. In their company, you will automatically have a goal to aspire for. This will go a big way in improving your results academically. And even if some untoward event happens with you, these friends will always be there by your side to support you and cheer you up.

2.Participate in all high school events. Another way of being happy at school is to use your idle time effectively. Playing video games, messaging friends, doing futile surfing on internet are not good habits to develop, for they have many negative side-effects and moreover they provide happiness only for a very short period of time. Instead, consider representing your school in sports, drama, elocution, music contests, etc. This will keep you happy as it freshens your mind, improves your concentration and enhances your skills; and will make your teachers and parents even more happy and proud. Their appreciation, admiration and encouragement will further enhance your confidence.

3.Never do anything to gather appreciation. Whatever you do, always do it very nicely; not with an intention to gather appreciation and boost your ego, but because ‘you’ want the work to be done in a nice manner, so that it gives you, as well as others around you, happiness and satisfaction. When this happens, your teachers and parents will automatically feel genuinely proud of you. And the blessings and best wishes of such teachers and parents will help you grow into a far better person too.

4.Never let your bad qualities overcome your good qualities. With higher results, better performance and satisfied parents and teachers, obviously, your confidence will naturally improve. However, it is important to know that there is a set of good qualities and also bad qualities in every living being.

Ego, anger, jealousy, hatred are all bad qualities, while love, concern for others, helping each other without any selfish motive are the good qualities. Always remain on guard that you do not allow your bad traits to take over the good qualities inside you; or else you will start hurting and harming people and indulge in more and more bad deeds. You can burn all the negativity that comes up through sincere and hearty repentance. Make this a daily practice before the negativity becomes the cause of your own destruction.

5.Less Ego, More Confidence! Always bear this sutra in mind. Whenever a person's ego is excessive, he is bound to lack self-confidence. He easily gets frustrated and confused. Moreover, the person with self-confidence is more fearless, while the one with ego will have enormous fears and doubts. Until ego becomes non-existent, there is nothing but fear in this world. It is good that you yourself are keen to avoid being egoistic.

For this, first and foremost, learn to accept your mistakes. Our ego generally doesn’t allow us to accept our mistakes. So try and be quick in accepting your mistakes, especially before your mentors and guides. Whenever you realize your mistake, confess, “Yes, I have made these mistakes.” Ask for forgiveness for those mistakes and vow to yourself that you always want to remain straightforward in all your dealings, be it with your friends, classmates or your teachers and principal.

6.Study well. One of the most important things to do, to be happy in school, is to enjoy and to be interested in what you learn, because the high school days are meant for educating ourself in the best manner as we can. ‘I know everything’ is a type of ego which does not allow us to learn more. So always use your intelligence, your knowledge to get better rather than in satisfying or boosting your ego. Further, ‘ask questions’, as this will help you grow and will also motivate your teacher to teach you more. Research the subjects you like and drill in to gather more and more in-depth understanding of it.

7.Remain positive. This is one of the most effective ways of remaining happy. Say, you failed in a test. Now, keep your mind calm and try and turn this into positive by thinking, ‘Hey! This showed me where my knowledge is lacking. Now I shall not fail in my final exam.’ One of the most common reasons for unhappiness is also problems with our fellow students. Get together, resolve your differences amicably, share positivity amongst you and see and learn from the best in each of you. Treat your classmates with respect and apologise for any hurt you may have caused intentionally or intentionally to any of them.

8.With closed eyes, meditate on the words you speak. Last but not the least, as a student, have a practice to meditate before studying. To do this, daily ten minutes before you start your studies, close your eyes and chant the name of whatever God you believe in. And while you do this, do not forget to read each word you are saying in your mind with your closed eyes. This will tremendously help improve your concentration, your confidence and your index of happiness.
