Dark spots also referred to as liver spots, age spots, or solar lentigines, are areas of increased melanin in the skin, a condition medically known as hyper pigmentation. They are generally flat in appearance, oval in shape, and are black or brown colored. Age spots occur mostly on the parts of the body that are frequently exposed to the sun, such as the face, shoulder, arms, hands, and upper back. These spots can be of different sizes, ranging from the size of a freckle to more than a centimeter.
It is not related to any serious underlying condition that requires medical intervention, but can be cosmetically and emotionally embarrassing, especially those on the face. However, it is possible to reduce or remove dark spots on face effectively using certain home remedies for spots on face. The main cause behind the occurrence of dark spots or age spots is nothing but the years of unprotected and direct exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. It has been noted that UV rays stimulate the production of melanin, a pigment that provides skin with its color.
When your skin is exposed to lots of sunlight, it produces more melanin to create a protective cover, which in turn results in the formation of spots on the skin. Hence, the first and foremost remedy to prevent the development of dark spots on the face is to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, particularly betwee

Coca butter can also help you lo deal with your age spots on the face. For optimum results, look for a lotion or stick that contains 100 percent coca butte and apply it to your face after cleansing. This is one of the good home remedies for dark spots on face. Mix sandalwood and rosewater and put it on your spots. Leave the mixture on your face for at least 15 minutes. Combine oatmeal, sour cream, and yogurt together and rub it on your face for at least 10 minutes. You can add some lemon juice to this mixture.
Another good way to get rid of facial spots is to place some fresh aloe vera gel on them. Buttermilk is also considered to be one of the best home remedies for dark spots on face. Apply buttermilk directly to the spots using a cotton ball, let it be on the face for a while, and then rinse it off. Lactic acid in the buttermilk helps to alleviate the color of spots. These spots can also be reduced by using a mixture of milk and honey. Milk also contains lactic acid and honey has many properties that are very good for the skin. You can also use castor oil to bleach the dark spots.
