Recently on my Blog Talk Radio show I interviewed Dr. Flechas who is a leading expert in the field of iodine. In my book, Breast Health Exposed, I have a chapter on iodine so I knew it was an important component of breast health but Dr. Flechas provided a whole new dimension to the world of iodine.

Today we are iodine deficient. It is practically impossible for the average person to get enough iodine. Now if you live in Korea and Japan where a diet of seawood is incorporated into your diet three times a day, then iodine is probably not a problem. The average Japanese person gets 13.8 mg (13,800 mdg) of iodine per day. On the other hand, North Americans are struggling to get just 150 mcg per day! There is a massive difference between those two numbers and the breast cancer rates between the two cultures indicate that iodine plays an important role in breast health.

Most women assume that they are getting enough iodine through salt. However, according to Dr. Flechas, 50% of salt in North America is not iodized salt. Sea salt, although being very healthy is even lower in iodine than regular salt. Unfortunately, things like fluoride, bromide and chlorine also destroy iodine. So does estrogen! So you are not getting enough iodine, period.

How serious is this? Very. Iodine is necessary for proper thyroid function but it actually affects almost every aspect of your body.

Dr. Flechas reported that fibrocystic breast condition can be attributed to an iodine deficiency. So can polycystic ovarian disease, low IQ, ADD, hardening of the arteries and even fibromyalgia.

Iodine is important in the death of cancer cells! Are you starting to see how a deficiency in iodine can be causing many of your health issues?

Iodine may very well be your ticket to better health and happier, healthier breasts.
