One thing that I believe that all successful people have in common is that they have established a daily routine of good habits which serves to keep them on top. We are trained at a young age to do our homework after school. If you ask me this is the most basic building block to success. Those of us who master this habit are well on the road to success in other areas of life. Let me use my own life as an example of what I am talking about. When I was a child I was smart enough to dodge every effort that my elementary school teacher made to make me do my homework. I would come up with every type of excuse and game to avoid doing my homework. What I should have realized was that she was actually trying her best to help me avoid hardships later in life. She would call my parents and talk to them about the problem but I took advantage of the fact that she was an attractive woman and my mother would question why she kept asking my father to see her at the school.

It took me quite a while to recover from my own laziness and begin to smell the coffee. Much damage had been done by the time that I did and I won’t ever recover totally but I am on the right track now and I will have to just do all that I can do. The military finally woke me up and got me started but I wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer by any means.

The sad thing is that I had the ability to do better but lacked the motivation. I saw many people with less ability pass me by many times. It’s a bad feeling to watch someone who you know is not as talented as you are rise above you. It’s a worse feeling when you have to work under them. Especially is they are they type person who micro manages.

I believe that the following tips will help you to become more successful in life if you follow them wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong on this one because success is more than following a few steps every day. You have to have the mental push to take you over the top. Motivation is the first key but habits play a vital role.

I have found that if I wake up early I have a start on the day that just can’t be beat. I now get up early each morning, pray and meditate then begin to accomplish the mundane tasks that just can’t be avoided. I like to do this from home so that there are no work distractions. I will turn on the daily news or some other information programs at this time to listen to while I work. This keeps me up to date on world events and topics that I can use in one of my articles or on one of my blogs.

One valuable thing that I have learned is that if you work in an office environment the best time to get things done is when there is no one else there unless you depend on another person’s work to do your own. Workplace distractions serve to prevent you from accomplishing your own goals. If you are a supervisor you can supervise better when your own work has been caught up. When you are distracted the quality of your own work will suffer.

Another thing that helps me is to make a list of things which need to be accomplished. I will keep a pad and pencil with me at all times. I will jot down tasks which come up from time to time. My memory is good but sometimes my mind will be on other events and I might fail to perform at the correct time. When I make a list I can review it in the morning and evening. I will scratch through the tasks that need to be accomplished as they are done. This way I insure that I have taken care of all necessary tasks.

The key is to get your day under control. You must learn to dictate your activities and not allow them to dictate to you. I don’t get everything done now that I want to but I am efficient. Nothing falls through the cracks. The Good Life
