GETTING STARTED FOR CAPATICY BUILDING TRAINING PROGRAMME
TIPS TO THE TRAINER

The role of the trainer in CAPACITY BUILDING is to create an awareness and make each trainee to understand their inherent skill. The effective role play by using their body language opens their mind and once their mind is open they are ready for a new learning.

You are the trainer.
You have been allotted two hours’ time only
You have been told to motivate and get the audience started for a CAPACITY BUILDING training programme
How to get the audience – hereinafter called the trainees – for the two hours’ programme ?

The first step for you is to-
To study the the mindset of the trainees. They are fresh from a rural area neither employed nor doing any business. Simple raw and unskilled and untrained group.

Within the time allotted, in case you do a lecturing session on leadership skills, creative thinking, it will not work.

You have to capture the mindset of the audience and your session should have an impact on them during the course of 45 minutes.
How to bring about at least the little change in them ?

You do the following role play method:

EXERCISE NO: 01:

1. Tell the participants to do a warm up exercise.
2. Make them have a small walk in a circle.
3. Tell them to clap their hands while they are walking
4. Tell them to cry like a cat
5. Tell them to shout like a dog
6. Tell them to sound like a donkey
7. Tell them to say – hurray, hurray, hurray etc

This will eliminate the inhibitions from their mindsets. While they are attempting to do the nasty things (as per their mindsets) they lose their inhibitions. Their mindsets are drawn downwards for the time being and they are now mentally open during the course of this exercise which lasts only upto to 10minutes

EXERCISE NO: 02:

Make the participants in a circle
1. Tell them to create sounds two times by twisting the fingers in both their hands when you say one
2. Tell them to clap their hands two times when you say two
3. Tell them to pat their shoulders two times when you say three
4. Tell them to pat their thighs two times when you say four
5. Tell them to clap their hands two times over their heads when you say five

Make them do this exercise at least five to ten times

EXERCISE NO: 03:

Make the participants form a circle. Form five groups consisting of five members in each group.

The selection should be on random basis only by selecting numbers 01 to 05, otherwise, likeminded people will join together and the very purpose will be defeated.

The importance in capacity building is to unite unknown members.

Now tell them to do the exercise
1. Each group has to select one activity
2. They have to take five to ten minutes time to have a rehearsal
3. They have to play a drama or role play wherein a social activity like the consequences of drug addiction, consequences of excess drinking alcohol, corruption in politics, corruption in educational institutions, road accidents etc
4. We should not suggest any topic
5. The group has to select the activity
6. Once the exercise is over, they have to play the role play in a silent manner without uttering any words
7. The best performing group should be rewarded

At the end of exercise No: 01, they lose their inhibitions
At the end of exercise No: 02, they try to understand each other and do an activity unitedly and a collective mindset is created
At the end of exercise No: 03, they understand themselves first and then their companions
