Tradition is good but there are times when it just doesn’t help anything at all. We must learn how to keep it in its proper place and not allow it to rule our lives. There is nothing wrong with observing traditions but the human tendency is to become blinded by them.

I have found that we as people tend to make our own rules for everyday life and sometimes we will stick to them even though they will serve to take us under. We are creatures of habit. We are defeated at times because of the very habits that we follow. When you look at accounts of smaller countries defeating larger countries in war you had better believe that tradition or habit is the culprit which causes the larger force to lose. People and organizations develop a routine about the way that they deal with certain situations. They will deal with similar situations the same way over time and develop a policy or routine. If you know their routine you will know exactly what their actions or reactions will be in certain situations. When you know this you can defeat them at will. All you have to do is to plan your attack or response around their programmed response.

Now let me ask you a question. Is this a tactic that someone that you know may be using to get the best of you? If your answer is no are you sure? We are more of a victim of habit than we realize. I have seen many occasions where a different concept or way of doing business would have been more beneficial but I or another person was doggedly determined to make the thing in our mind work.

We can’t afford to be tripped up by our own minds. Most of life’s defeats happen because we refuse to acknowledge the way of victory. I am a firm believer that there is a way out of every possible problem which we can face in life but finding the answer is usually up to us.

Do you have any beliefs which hinder you? If your answer was no you are worse off that I thought because the truth is that we all have some kind of mental blockages which keep us from reaching our full potential. One of the biggest keys to success is finding out what they are and dealing with them. The extent that you can eliminate them has a major role to the extent of your success in life.

I have a friend who had a brilliant idea on making money. He had secured contracts with two different trucking companies to wash their trucks twice a month. There was a combined total of about sixty vehicles which meant that we would have to wash at least six trucks per day in order to keep on top of the situation.

The problem was that he only had an old hand held pressure washer which was labor intensive. On a good day you would be able to wash about four trucks but you would have to scrub every inch with a brush which was exhausting. There was no way possible to do so each day of every week. I did all that I could to convince him to upgrade his equipment but he refused citing the cost of new equipment. The amount of work that we would have been able to do with the new equipment would have done more than offset its cost but he wouldn’t budge. We ended up not doing anything because of his unwillingness to invest. The only reason that this opportunity was missed was because of his obsession with not spending any money. What’s the thing which obsesses you and ties defeat around your neck? The Good Life
