We have a few tips on how to get more customer numbers for SMS marketing.

  1. Make it part of your server duties. It’s already important for your servers to ask customers about their service. While they are wrapping up the meal, it’s simple to add the question, “Before you go, we’d like to offer you an opportunity to get deals and rewards sent via text message. Sign up is simple and we’ll give you a free dessert next time you come in.” They can either give them your keyword right there or give them a simple coupon with opt-in instructions.
  2. Put it on a business card. Put the opt-in information on a business card and place it at the register, in to-go bags and in takeaway menus. Have the counter staff promote ask if they want to sign up or explain the opt-in process at the end of the order.
  3. Put QR codes on the menu.  Add a QR code (a bar code of sorts that links to your opt-in form). Put the code on the menu, so your customers can scan the code and opt-in right from their phone.
  4. Put it on a comment card. Use comment cards asking for your customer’s information. Use a check box option asking if they would like to receive free text messages from the restaurant sending promotions. Have a staff member update the customer database each shift. Send the welcome message within 24 hours.
  5. Run a contest with employees. A very effective way to get more customer numbers is to run contests for your employees. Competition for a covered shift or $50 in cash is a sales and marketing driver.
