Most people are satisfied with going to college, obtaining a degree and getting a proverbial "good" job. Couple that with having a loving family and earning a few promotions and they're ecstatic. But being complacent and following the hoi polloi is not the way to get ahead in life. If you're looking to catapult your success, make a powerful impact and leave a legacy, try incorporating the following strategies into your life.

Focus on Your Strengths

The late Steve Jobs once said, "The only way to do great work is to do what you love," according to Huffington Post. Did he make an impact while he was here? The answer may lie in what you're holding in your hand as you read this. The point is, you are more likely to make a splash, get noticed and encourage people to follow you if you choose a career that you excel in.

Become an Expert

The standards for what used to be exceptional change every day, according to Inc. That's why you should never stop learning. If you're working a job you excel at and love, keep getting better at it. Get a mentor at work and learn from the experts. Go on seminars or take college course. Never stop learning. This will better help you make an impact on society.

Get the Credentials

People are more likely to listen to you if you have a degree to back up your statements and opinions. You're also more likely to get published or have the opportunity to teach others with a degree. To really differentiate yourself from others, get a master’s degree in your discipline. Continue on with a PhD.

Make Helping People Your Chief Objective

A master’s degree will solidify your standing in the world, but you must also help people to make a real impact. Help others in your field get ahead by mentoring them. They'll remember and talk about you long after you're gone. Volunteer for various charities and take leadership roles in each one. People take notice when you help others.

Never Give Up

You're going to have good and bad days in life. You're also going to have failures which make you stronger and help you grow as a person. Keep striving for your goals in life no matter what age you are. Persistence will set you apart from others.

Make it a daily goal to focus on improving your skills, advancing yourself and helping others succeed. If you do that, you can't help but make a huge impact while you're here.
