Many people never succeed in this seemingly simple task. Our minds misdirect us. We frequently think we know what we want only to discover that upon achieving or receiving it that we are still not as happy as we would wish to be. At other times we know what we would like but are too afraid to ask for it, or lack the confidence and determination to keep asking for it, or seem unable to find the right way in which to ask.

If you are unhappy or dissatisfied then one of the most important things to do is to figure out what you want and then to learn how to ask for it. Doing one without the other won't work. You can ask for anything and everything but if it is not what you really want it will not cause you to feel contented. Similarly, if you know what you want but do not learn how to ask for it you will most likely never enjoy its presence in your life.

Wise elders have been known to admonish younger minds to be careful what they wish for, because it may just come to fruition. The fact is that you are the only person qualified to decide what it is that you really want. Others who have more experience may be able to foresee hidden pitfalls, but unless you yourself are aware of these, that other person's knowledge is of no use to you. We all learn best through our own experiences, as opposed to vicariously through others.

When working out for yourself what you really want, be it in your personal or your business life, all you can do is to weigh up the pros and cons using the information that is available to you. You use both your intellect and your emotions when making these types of decisions.

Sometimes your logical mind and your emotions will be out of sync with each other. Your logical mind will whisper one thing to you and yet your emotions will be screaming the opposite in your ears. This tends to be the way with one's emotions; they are rather more forceful than mere conscious and logical thought. They have more power.

Should you feel the need to calm your emotions and apply more logic to the decision-making process hypnosis is a useful ally. With hypnosis you gain access to your subconscious mind and you can consciously choose to alter thoughts, beliefs, feelings and expectations. You can in this way use hypnosis to align your conscious and logical mind with your emotional desires and expectations.

Once you have figured out what it is you really want, and your conscious and subconscious mind are aligned in their intent, the next step is to learn how to ask for it. A good query to make of yourself is what is stopping you from doing it? The following question should usually begin with the prefix "why?" It is important to ask "what" and "why" questions until there are no more what or why questions to be asked. The answers you come to will reveal what you need to learn so as to ask for what you want.

It is often the case that a lack of self-confidence lies at the root of not knowing how to ask for something. Once again, hypnosis can be used to assist, building your confidence from within.
