If you are reading this, my inside is smiling and I want to welcome you to the battle.

What battle would that be? You ask…

Flesh against Spirit!!!

Yup – the big one!

God Created man! And the earth, and the universe, and…

Genesis 2:7 – Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Please notice – NOT Rock, diamond, steel, gold, thunder, water, or air, but dust…

If you want to understand why…

From the moment we are born (into sin) we are taught to have faith in our 5 senses (Sight, Hearing, Taste, Smell, and Touch). We need to learn to use these to survive. It is a human animal thing; if you don’t learn to use them, or develop them or trust them – well, you die.

Now God enters the picture. He asks us to believe. Guess what we always do?

We say - Show me, Don't tell me...

How does He respond? (Please note His lack of concern for Himself – but rather concern for us.)

Ephesians 6: 12, 13 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Please allow me to repeat something:

but against the rulers,
against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

So how can I build my faith?

1. Ask God for Help (Matthew 7:7 – “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.)

2. Practice your belief (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 – Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.) BTW “test all things” scripture actually refers to PROPHECY.

3. Study (Hebrews 11 all of it… These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.)

4. Move with God’s Spirit (2 Timothy 1:6-7 – For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.)

5. Live inside faith (1 Timothy 4:12 – Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.)

6. Enjoy life irrespective (James 1:2-3 – Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.)

7. Fight for it (Jude 3 – Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.)

8. Trust God (Romans 1:17 – For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”)
shield-of-faith

That is preposterous!!!! Do you want to tell me that I must grow my faith by being faithful???

Yup… Explain to me how you developed your ability to walk? How does a runner improve his or her running?

Recipe to keep the faith: Prepare -> Fight -> win or loose -> Prepare….

Let me hear from you; comment, add a new perspective, share your beautiful story…

Anton van den Berg is a normal person. I have no specialized theological training but I have led a life of hard and tough lessons. Like silver, I had to be taken to the furnace to get rid of a lot of impurities. In that process, I have learned to let certain things go, and to attach to other values. These posts represent some of the pivotal growth-moments in that journey. I hope that it would assist you on your journey in some way. May God Almighty, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit be with you.
