Worrying is making a choice to suffer? Who would consciously choose to suffer? Not me. That’s just ridiculous.

I hear that a lot. But then… they continue to worry.

What is worry?

Worry is an imagined state of that which has not happened. It’s only real in the mind. But the emotions of worry are real enough, and they wreak all sorts of havoc on your mind, body, and spirit. Worry is literally an extension of fear. Fear is one of the most destructive of all emotions, being even more potent than anger and hatred.

What is actually happening when you are worrying about a perceived possibility of some future event that you don’t want? Emotions of negative and harmful frequencies are being produced in your body, being delivered to every cell and tissue of your body – changing their frequencies in such a way that is detrimental to cellular function.

An acidic response is then produced, and inflammation occurs, along with cell mutation. Weight gain begins, as well as negative moodiness, which causes relationship strain. Your liver receives signals from the brain that your blood pH levels have become too acidic. And then, calcium is leached from your bones and teeth, to alkalize the blood sufficiently so as not to weaken and tear your capillaries, arteries, and veins. Too much acidity for too long a time carries the possibility of weakening the blood vessels to the point of tearing and rupture, essentially causing a bleedout from the inside. Well then, the liver, sensing danger and working overtime to keep you alive, amps up production of cholesterol in order to save your life. Cholesterol is used by the body to patch the weak spots in the blood vessels to prevent tearing and rupture. And then there’s the extra calcium building up in your blood vessels. This is why so many heart attacks are truly stress-related. And this is only the tip of the iceberg in what is going on in your body when you are chronically worried.

It creates a cycle that gets even more difficult to break free from. You worry about something that might have happened but didn’t… and then you worry about your health… and then you worry about your loved ones having to look after you… and then you worry about your finances from your health and insurance bills… and then you worry about being too stressed-out to keep your job or business… and then you worry that you should take a vacation, but you just can’t… and it goes on… and on… and on…

There’s also your spiritual connection to consider. We always have a spiritual connection to Source, but trapped negative emotions and subconscious beliefs, or programs, get in the way and cause blockages which make us feel disconnected from our spiritual source. When we worry, we are completely out of touch with who and what we truly are. Worry is a part of the ego mind. It’s there to strengthen the ego and make the ego feel safe. Our Spirit Mind, on the other hand, is there to guide and direct us to be happy in our lives, to help us experience joy, appreciation, love, gratitude, forgiveness, and to reach enlightenment. Our Spirit Mind is here to teach us who and what we really are, and how to tune into the joy of it, how to increase our awareness and intuition, and open up our most extraordinary gifts. Every time we worry, we disconnect ourselves from our true joy. And it doesn’t have to be this way. We do not have to choose to suffer by choosing to worry.

Why do we worry about things we can’t control then? Why do we put ourselves through this suffering? Well, because we have these subconscious programs that tell us these little untruths that, somehow, by worrying, we can control the outcome of what we are focused on. And it’s simply not true. Every time we worry, we are creating an image – a focus – on what we do not want, and then powering it up with the intensity of our emotions. This is what creates reality. Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what you want and what you don’t want, or what is real versus what is imagined. It only knows what you are focused on. And it obediently goes to work to create that for you.

So how do you get yourself out of the worry rut? There are a number of wonderful ways you can do this. One of the most powerful is a step-by-step mind re-wiring system that I like to use often.

1. Pay very close attention to how you are feeling. The moment you feel worried, stressed, upset, angry, frustrated, or negative in any way, whether it’s a state of mind, or you are feeling it in your body, stop. Stop everything you are thinking and doing, and take a moment to allow yourself to identify what you are feeling.

2. Once you have identified the emotion or physical sensation (such as your stomach going up or tightening, or a pain somewhere in your body, a headache, a twinge, a pressing on your chest, or a general uneasiness, etc.), take a deep breath, and exhale. Then ask yourself:

What was I just thinking?
What was I just hearing?
What was I just seeing?

3. Rewind. Determine whether you had an external image that prompted the stress response, like a bill in the mail, or whether someone said something to you in a tone of voice that was upsetting, like a snide remark from a child or spouse, or was it the words someone said to you? Was it something you just read, or the TV news… or was it your own mind-chatter going on – internal dialog – self-talk – that said something, such as “I can’t pay this bill” or “why won’t he call me back,” for example. Just stop and rewind and play back what was going on in your mind just before you noticed the emotional or physical distress.

4. Once you have identified what it was you were focused on – the thing that you don’t want to happen – make it your conscious decision to gather up anything there is to be learned from the experience – even if you aren’t consciously aware of what the lesson is, just commanding your unconscious mind to gather up the lesson for you, and then let the fear, doubt, and worry go. Let it float away, like smoke or steam. Just let it go.

5. And then make it your conscious decision to change your focus to what you do want. That doesn’t mean focusing on what you want with frustration that you don’t have it yet. That means changing your focus to being happy and excited about the fact that you do have it. Remember – your subconscious mind does not know the difference between what is real and what you think is real – what you believe is real. Believe with joy and faith that what you want is yours, and it will be. Believe with frustration that what you want is not yet yours, and it will take longer to receive it.

Do this habitually. It may be tedious at first, especially if you are prone to worrying. But it does get easier. Within two to three weeks of doing this process consistently, your mind begins to shift from automatic worry to habitual conscious choice and creation.

This is one of the greatest secrets to life. We get to choose our thoughts. We do not have to choose to suffer by worrying. And by consciously choosing our thoughts, we get to create whatever reality we want. It all begins when we stop allowing our minds to wander off without us.
