Often when we face an unfavorable or inconvenient circumstance, we instinctively respond with complaints such as:

●This is all their fault!
●If only they had done as I told them, everything would be fine.
●How rude of them to speak to me like that!
●I would never do that if I were in their place.
●They are like this and they are like that…

When we complain, we feel quite relieved and even happy. A sense of righteousness that stems from the suffering, coupled with the sense of injustice we feel we have suffered, makes it appear that it is not only acceptable but very essential to complain.

Is it really okay to complain?
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan explains that in reality, complaints do no good. Whatever one is suffering, however bad the situation is, it will not be helped by complaints. On the contrary, complaining sows bad karmic seeds that will bear bad fruits later on.

Let us understand this still further.

The law of karma states that whatever, good or bad, happens in our life today, is a result of the karmic causes that we ourselves have sown previously. If we have hurt someone in the past, we will be hurt in almost similar way in this life. If we have lied, someone will lie to us, if we have deceived, we will be deceived, and if we have helped, we will be helped in return.

This means that any and all pain, suffering and inconvenience that we face in this life are called for by us only and no one else. However strongly we may feel that it is an injustice done to us, it is in fact pure and complete justice as it is the result of our own karma.

For example, say our neighbor’s house is broken into. Now, we start complaining about the security systems, about apartment administration, about sincerity and integrity in police, about government laws and lapses and people in general too. But we forget that all this while, our house has been totally safe and secure. And nothing will happen to me in future too unless my past bad karma becomes due. If at all my past bad karma becomes due, then no one can stop it from happening. And in case it does not, you have unnecessarily ruined your own future by complaining; for you have now bound new bad karma, as a result of which similar burglary could take place in your house too.

The science of karma is such that when we complain, we cause bad karma because we are seeing the faults of those who are only being an instrument in giving the result of our own karmas. And furthermore, when we complain, we are sending out negative vibes and are causing subtle hurt to the people for whom we have complaints, thus causing further new bad karmas. Thus, complaints only create more conflicts and more suffering.

This world is not to be complained about!
It is like this, if you divide a negative situation with a positive situation, the account will be dispensed with. Wherever you have to suffer pain or grief, instead of multiplying it through complaints and non-acceptance, if you accept it with a cheerful attitude and smile, there will be nothing left over in that account.

It is therefore advisable to see the positive in every situation and accept whatever happens, with the right understanding. This prevents causing new bad karma and also helps clear old bad karma with equanimity.
