One of the most gratifying experiences is undergoing dog training with your pet. It is not only satisfying but also a responsible thing to do. Being a dog owner, you have to make sure that your dog understands certain commands and limitations. It is also a way to establish a good relationship with your dog. You can build a relationship that is based on love, trust and respect. Truth be told, you can actually protect your dog’s life by making sure that they are trained.

Classic dog training involves verbal commands. This is great for certain breed. However, there are some breeds that do not respond very well to verbal commands. For instance breeds like terriers, hounds and other toy dogs are not keen on verbal cues. They need an alte
ative training method. So to help out aggravated pet owners, there are some tricks like using a clicker training.

What is a clicker training? It is a training that involves a handheld clicker. This is a small gadget that helps owners give their pets a positive response for a certain action. The click represents an immediate reward for a positive action made by the dog. There is a high degree of success related to the use of clickers for various animals aside from dogs such as cats and horse. In this method, it also involves a treat to get the desired response from your pet.

However, there some things to keep in mind when using this type of dog training. For instance, you need to consider the nonverbal cues that you might be showing your pet. Make sure that they will not be confused with your body language. Your dog needs to disce
the link between the desired action and the click command.

Also, make sure that there are not a lot of distracting elements surrounding your dog that might make them confused with the command. You can try go train them in a bit more isolated spot. You need to be consistent with your command along with your body language. If needed, you can repeat the command along with slight physical reinforcement. But keep in mind that you need to do this gently yet firmly. You need to steer clear of verbal issuance to your pet, expect for puppies. Look for any signs that your dog understands the link with the positive action and the click. If you observed this, then repeat the action while gradually decreasing the physical reinforcement. In this way, you can embed the correct response and the clicker to their mind. You can also include treat that your dogs greatly enjoys to make it more effective. As previously mentioned, you need to avoid using verbal cues to dogs which would cause confusion with the action to their mind. However you can use this with puppies but minimize this to a 1-word command right after the click. Just make sure to use consistent, firm yet gentle physical corrections, only if needed as well as a reward. As much as possible you need to refrain from giving physical and verbal punishments. This is unnecessary and harsh. Just give them praise for a job well done and take the time to train them.
