You can make the future brighter beginning today.

You can be the sun shining through on a cloudy day or the rainbow after a storm.

You already have what it takes to do so. Do you know what that is?

There are no two greater or endearing qualities than love and kindness. You are an expression of these and they are for you to give and receive freely.

It’s not always easy to express these invaluable virtues especially when you’re feeling angry, down, stressed, impatient, or doubting yourself, another, or life, but when you do, know and trust that they really can make a world of difference!

Mother Teresa said, "I’m a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world". Read these words of wisdom again.

Post this quote or another one in your office, your car, at home, on your alarm clock, etc., to remind you to send a little love and kindness to yourself, to another person, and to the world.

I have a picture of my daughter, myself and our dog at the time, on a beach at sunset and my daughters arms are outstretched as if she is hugging the world. When I look at it I am reminded that everyone and our world needs to be loved.

Just for a moment can you think of yourself as a pencil in the hand of a writing God?

What kind of letters are you sending to your partner, children, family, friends, co-workers, employer, employees, strangers, prisoners, or to soldiers on both sides of the war?

You don’t have to actually write a letter unless you would like to, but silently write one in and from your heart.

If you aren’t feeling love and gentleness, try sending it to yourself first, or ask for help sending it to another, or read Mother Teresa’s words again.

These days with a click of a mouse and a few key words you can read or view inspiring acts of love, kindness, inspiration and laughter from around the world, or you can watch the doom and gloom. The choice is yours as to which you look at and what you do.

Don’t worry if you can’t always find feelings or thoughts of tenderness towards yourself or another because you will be given lots of opportunities in which to practice.

Whether you choose to forgive, turn the other cheek, agree to disagree, apologize, let bygones be bygones, be loving and kind, offer a smile, give a warm embrace, offer a donation of time, money, food, shelter, or clothing, or lend a helping hand, the decision is yours and yours alone.

Do you want to make the future brighter for you, others, and generations to follow?

You don’t have to travel far, if at all, unless you would like to, to offer small acts of love and kindness. You can do this everyday and any time of the day wherever you are.

When someone cuts you off when you are driving, you can smile and send them love.

When someone says or does something that you don’t like, you can be loving by not retaliating, or perhaps asking them if they are having a bad day.

You may not forget things that have happened but you can forgive yourself and others. You can let the past and grievances go with love.

When you are listening to or watching the news and you hear about the wars, killings, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, cruelties to humans, animals or our earth, you can send love right from where you are in that very moment.

Love and kindness can be shared in all kinds of simple and creative ways.

Put your thinking cap on and see what new ways you can make the future brighter.

If you were a coloured pencil, what colour would you be today?

Be that colour throughout the day in everything you do.

What kind of love letters will you send today?

Love and be kind to yourself, another person, and the world!
