“Online Business” is a broad term for a plethora of online business models. Some people think of online business as get rich quick schemes using underhanded marketing tactics to create a quick buck. But there are solid online business entrepreneurs or webpreneurs as I like to call them, who have real and viable businesses. They treat it and work it like real businesses. If you truly want to be successful online, you need to first adopt a winning mindset for the business. After that, the possibilities are endless.

Here are four key online business mindset premises:

1. Be truly willing to help others There is a quote that I really love that goes something like this, "If you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want." By Zig Ziglar
The people that are truly successful in online business start from a place of providing solutions for others. This shines through in their free content as well as in their information products, membership websites or other business models.

You have to work at it Like anything worth pursuing you have to really work at it. The idea that an internet business is easy, quick money is a facade. Those that do achieve early success or a big pay in a short period of time, still had to put in the work. There is more going on behind the scenes that you may think.

Plan your work and work your plan This is a cliché I know. If you have been trying to build an online business for any period of time, you know about distractions. If you don’t have a plan for your online business you can get distracted looking for the shiny object, signing up for everyone’s email list, reading email all day, tweeting all day. You need some structure to your business. Whether its vetting new Twitter followers every other day, marketing every Friday or whatever day you choose. You need to have a plan based on your online business goals and stick to it. If you love surfing the net or reading industry blogs, set aside a day when you will do this. This way you don’t feel like you are missing out.

Take Action Learn while you earn. Learning is good, actually essential for owning and operating an online business. Marketing evolves so much. It’s a dynamic medium. However, if you spend all your time studying and reading and never take action then you will not make money. Get in the habit of analyzing income streams, make a decision to try or not to try it, then take action. Whether it is moving on or implementing. It’s OK if you make mistakes. That’s actually a part of learning, making mistakes.

There you have it. Start from those four premises and you will have a solid online business that pays the bills and beyond.
