The historic coastal town of Mamallapuramnet on the East Coast Road in Tamil Nadu is likely to host the second India-China ‘informal’ summit between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, scheduled in October 2019, informed a top government sources.

Mamallapuramnet was “one of the probable” ones that could host the top leaders of the respective nations for the two-day summit on October 11 to October 13, which is the second informal summit, said the official on the condition of anonymity.

He continued, “Mamallapuram is one of the probable cities that could host the informal summit between the Prime Minister and the Chinese President.”

While some other popular Indian cities were also on the list, but he didn’t named them. The official didn’t disclose further details.

Mamallapura is also popular as Mahabalipuram, which is located on the East Coast Road about 50 Km away from Chennai, home to various ancient monuments as well as shrines.

According to the Kancheepuram District Administration’s official website, Mamallapuram is considered as “one of the oldest structural excellence of South India and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”

Arrangements for the second informal summit are being managed at the highest level of the State and Central Governments.

Besides holding bilateral talks during the summit, top leaders are expected to make a visit to the ancient monuments in the historic coastal town.

During the first informal summit in Wuhan, the top leaders had made a visit to the provincial museum in Hubei.

Ahead of President Xinping’s visit to India, a Chinese delegation is expected to be informed of the arrangements.

Recently, a meeting with senior officials of the Union External Affairs Ministry and Tamil Nadu Government took place in Chennai.

The first informal summit was held in China’s Wuhan on April 27 to April 28 in 2018, “to exchange views on overarching issues of bilateral and global importance, and to elaborate their respective visions and priorities for national development in the context of the current and further international situation,” said the Union External Affairs Ministry.

Mamallapuramnet also hosted the Defexpo or Defence Expo 2018, which the annual event of the Union Defence Ministry with international participation. PM Modi introduced Defence Expo in 2018. An official informed that it was the first time in recent times that an event with historic significance with diplomatic ties was being held in Tamil Nadu.
