I have always believed that everyone has gifts. Sometimes it takes all of a person's life to figure out what those gifts are and the person doesn't get to do the work he or she was "supposed" to do. That's where Karma comes in. After all, what goes around comes around and if you don't get to do what you were put here on Earth to do; well, you just have to try again until you get it right.
I have the gift of words. For some reason which I do not understand, I can write things that other people enjoy reading. I used the gift to write a weekly opinion column in an east coast newspaper for four years. People have told me how much they miss reading it now that I have moved to Florida and don't write it anymore.
I write in a conversational tone and make the reader feel as if he or she is a participant in the story. It has made by books successful and given me an audience for my articles. Still, I wasn't really using my gift to help others.
I author self help books and courses as well as Ebooks and I guess, if someone follows the suggestions therein, they help others but not like I would like to do. So, I began to work as a freelance writer. I write for people who don't have a way with words like I do. These people know what they want to say but don't know the best way to say it. I do and after I am done with their work, they get all the credit. I'm crazy; right? No; you see, I don't like the spotlight. I have never been able to brag about my books or ask my friends to buy a copy. I blush when someone congratulates me for something I have written. I stammer through interviews. It's better to work as a ghost. You can have the satisfaction of knowing that you have a successful article, blog, book or whatever. The person who contracted for the service gets all the accolades and makes all the money but I have a good feeling that I am using my gift.
One of the categories I ghostwrite in is "spirituality". I currently blog for a psychic who does celebrity readings in California. I write the weekly blog and do the horoscopes. The psychic gets the accolades. In this case I get to use my other abilities as well as my creative writing abilities. I enjoy putting to paper the words that form in my head about the subjects like numerology, automatic writing, astrology, 12/21/2012, and reincarnation. I am something of an authority on some of these subjects and I enjoy sharing my expertise. Who cares if someone else's name is on the paper? Not I.
I have found that there are multiple ways of using your gifts to help others; ghostwriting is mine. Most of my clients seem to appreciate the work I do. All work is kept confidential and the copyright is theirs as soon as I am paid. For the few who have, for whatever reason, not paid for their work the articles are used by me on my blog or website. I figure I might as well because I have time and energy invested in the articles. So, even if I don't care for the subject matter, I post them.
Sometimes, I have found that ghostwriting helps to jump start someone who is in a bad place in his or her life and get him or her writing again on his/her own. I feel like this is a good deed, too.
There are many ways to use your gifts. A person needs to figure out what his/her gifts are and then use them the best way possible to get the most out of them. Karma; mustn't forget Karma. If you have to go around again at least you will know what you are up against and what to do.
Everyone has gifts. Find yours and use them to help others any way you can.
P.D. Rivers is a native of the Carolina Low Country. "My family tree is a big ole magnolia being choked to death by a thick ole vine of white wisteria." Now living in Florida, she ghostwrites for people who don't have her way with words.
