Developing a clear vision about yourself and your business might be the most important factor in determining your success as a leader. The clearer you are in what you want to achieve and the path to achieving it, the better are your chances of success and your abilities to lead others to success as well.

Visualize your ideal future in 1/3/7 years and strive to think about it “as already achieved” every day. The more you visualize, the higher your ability will be to make it come true.

Many people suffer from fuzzy thinking. This can be caused by many reasons including too many things on your mind, too many responsibilities (who doesn’t?), too many problems or too much to do in little or not enough time. This fuzzy thinking creates the illusion that you are not in control and you allow yourself to be serving others based on the more panicky they look. You are more receptive to phone calls, you try to solve small issues and do small low-value tasks and leave the hard and valuable tasks till later. This is also called procrastination.

To be emotionally intelligent you need to understand that fuzzy thinking does not serve you well. You need to have clarity and focus all the time. You need to work on your most valuable tasks no matter how you feel.

Fuzzy thinking may mean overwhelm

To be able to return to reality and remove overwhelm, you need to clarify. What I am going to tell you has changed my life. To be able to clarify your goals, you will be able to enjoy every minute of your day. You will feel in control and you will be able to measure your progress by how much you are working towards your most valuable tasks.

Visualization + implementation = success

Your success is dependent on your ability to visualize clearly what you want to achieve, visualize the success of that achievement and take action to get it implemented. Learn how to improve your visualization techniques and how to take action immediately to be successful.

Visualization

Your ability to see clearly what you want to achieve is the key to your success. To start any goal you have to create it in your mind first. To be able to create anything, you need first to create it in your mind and internalize it. For example, if you want to build a house, you usually think about it for sometime, you visualize your home and how you are going to arrange the tables, chairs and furniture. Then you see yourself in your house before you actually have a house. Same with your goals, to be able to create or achieve any goal, you need to be able to visualize that goal in its entirety before you are able to take action immediately. The visualization should be comprehensive and rewarding. If you have a sales target, then visualizing that you already have achieved it would give you a self confidence boost that will help you to actually achieve it.

Make the goal smaller

Sometimes goals are too big to achieve in one go, for example if you want to have a successful business and you are just starting up, it might frustrate you when you don’t reach your goal quickly. So, to prevent this loop of frustration, you need to simplify your goal. Here are three steps to visualize
1. Visualize your full project as already completed and as achieved
2. Think of the first step/action that needs to be done to progress in your project.
3. Visualize the achievement of the first step/action to the point where you are 100% clear about what you want to achieve and how it would look like when it is done and all the steps in between.

Implementation

The next step is to take action on your goal, nothing happens until you take action on any goal. It is your job to actually take your vision to life. It is your purpose in this life to make what you see in your mind a reality. Walt Disney had seen it all in his head before he went on to creating it. But without action, no one would have been able to enjoy what he did for the world.

Taking action can be overwhelming sometimes procrastination can get in the way and block you from achieving your goals. A good practice to tackle this issue is to simplify your “next action”. For example let’s say you want to build a house, your next project phase is to make the roof. The roof can be a complex issue with lots of uncertainties and fears wrapped along with them. The best way to tackle it is to start with something small. For example, your next action may be to call the engineer. That should be it for now. You moved from having a complex thing in your mind which was “to build the roof” to having one small thing which is “to call the engineer” and it takes less than 5 minutes to do the later. This will simplify “next action” and move you closer to your goal without stress.
While on your call with the engineer you might figure out with him that you need to do 3 more things to get the ball going, call the supplier for materials quotation, call the contractor and maybe think of proper date for the roof installation. The key is to only select the “next action” from the above list which could be the call to the contractor. You can only do one thing at a time, so one of the above will HAVE to become the “next action”. Figure it out and then resolve to do it right away.

Celebrate Success Everyday

To be able to feel wealthy every day, you need to celebrate all “next action” tasks that you worked on. You need to be able to say “yes” I did that and it is completed. Acknowledging what you have achieved can help you become more confident and allow you to achieve more and be successful more.
