Can You Get Pregnant If You Have Irregular Periods: Trying To Conceive With Irregular Periods

You probably know many women who have gotten pregnant the first month they tried. Chances are, they made sure they had intercourse on the day they knew they were ovulating and two weeks later they announced their good news. If you are a woman who struggles with infertility, your irregular periods may be at the forefront of the struggle. Knowing that your doctor won't even see you until you've tried to conceive for a year, you may be at your wits' end. However, there are ways of planning a pregnancy even if the only thing regular about your periods is their irregularity.

The key to getting pregnant is to know when you are ovulating. Women with regular cycles of 28 to 30 days usually ovulate between 10 and 14 days after the first day of their period. Women with cycles that sometimes last 21 days and other times last 35 days have a hard time even guessing when they are going to ovulate.

What do I really need to do to get pregnant? Is it possible to reverse and eliminate infertility?

Before giving up, try these four tips to deal with unknown ovulation times and you just might be surprised when you take that next pregnancy test.

Tip #1 - Buy a kit.
The easiest method of trying to determine ovulation is to buy an ovulation predictor test at your local pharmacy. They test urine to determine whether or not a woman is ovulating. The downside to these kits is that, if you have absolutely no idea when you are going to ovulate, you could be buying a lot of kits until you get a positive result. The other negative about ovulation predictor tests is that they have a somewhat high rate of being inaccurate.

Tip #2 - Track your temperature.
Changes in basal body temperature are a fairly accurate way of determining when ovulation is about to occur.

Because these changes in temperature are so slight, it is best to take your temperature with a thermometer specifically designed to measure basal temperatures. Keep the thermometer close to your bed and take your temperature as soon as you wake up in the morning. Record the temperature each day and it will be easy to see when your temperature is rising. When you see the rise in the temperature, you'll know that you are ovulating.

This is a much more inexpensive and accurate way of figuring out on which days you are most likely to get pregnant.

Tip #3 - Monitor your mucus.
If you aren't going to try the predictor tests and you are frustrated with tracking temperatures, you can track the changes in your cervical mucus. As your body gets ready to ovulate, the mucus becomes more clear and stretchy. When the mucus reaches this consistency, you will know that you are ovulating.

Tip #4 - Have a lot of intercourse.
It seems like too obvious an answer to a challenging problem. However, if you are a woman with chronically irregular menstrual cycles, having frequent intercourse could get you pregnant faster than the above three tips. Sperm can live in a woman's body for four days, so as long as intercourse occurs four days before ovulation, conception can occur. The best frequency of intercourse is every 48 hours, as a frequency more than that can adversely affect sperm viability. A frequency less than that and you may miss that ovulation window.

Trying to get pregnant with irregular menstrual cycles can be challenging, but not impossible. Try these four tips and you just might be surprised with a pregnancy next month.

I sometimes hear from people who are trying to conceive but they are finding it to be a bit trying. Some couples find themselves in a situation where they have a limited opportunity to have sex. So, they have to take the opportunity when it presents itself and then hope for the best. Sometimes, this situation can't be helped because the couple lives separately or one of them has to be out of town for long stretches at a time.

I heard from someone who said: "my husband and I have decided that we want to conceive this year. However, right now, he lives a couple of hours away from me during the week. His job site is in another city and it doesn't make sense for him to drive four hours every day. He is looking for another job, but for now, we only see one another on weekends. Well, last weekend, I was on my menstrual period. But we did not want to waste the opportunity to become pregnant. If we conceived when I was on my period, would I have a better chance of getting a boy or a girl? I'd like a boy but I'm not that picky. I would be happy with either gender." I will try to address these concerns below.

Why Conception On Your Period Isn't Usually Very Likely: I didn't want to tell this woman that her weekend attempt at conception wasn't going to work. It's not impossible to get pregnant when you are on your period, but it's very rare. Most women ovulate anywhere from 10 - 20 days after the end of their period with the mid way point coming in at around day 14 - 15.

Although that midway point is the most common time for ovulation, different women ovulate at different times. There are some women who ovulate very early in their cycle. And since the sperm and the egg can live for a little while, it's not impossible to conceive while a woman is in the last days of her period (especially if she has a long menstrual cycle.) But hopefully, you can see why it would be rare. It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.

I could not guess as to when this woman might ovulate, but she could easily find out on her own by using an ovulation predictor. Since ovulation times vary by the woman, I often recommend starting to test for ovulation after your period ends and to continue on until you get a definite positive reading.

Slightly Higher Odds: For the sake of argument, let's say that this woman was one of those rare women who ovulated close to their menstrual cycle. If this rare circumstance happened, the odds would be slightly higher for a girl baby, because the weaker boy sperm have a small disadvantage when the sperm is waiting for the egg. However, this doesn't take into account the woman's vaginal PH or the sexual positions used, which can also have an effect on gender.

Only time would tell if this couple had been successful in becoming pregnant by conceiving during her menstrual cycle. If they did not, I would recommend being more deliberate with their timing the next time. I would use an ovulation predictor and I would have one of them travel to the other right after ovulation (because conception after ovulation favored the boy that they wanted.) I know that this was probably inconvenient for both of them. But timing is very important when you are trying to conceive. If you conceive too early or too late in your cycle then the egg and sperm aren't viable at the right time. And this is even more important if your baby's gender is important to you.

I know exactly how you feel as it happened to me. I was told by 3 different fertility specialists that I was in early menopause, had no eggs left and that my only chance of having a baby was to use a donor egg or adopt. Against the odds, I fell pregnant naturally with a healthy baby boy at the age of 40.

Vaginal odor is one of the most embarrassing health problems that a woman can have. You are ashamed of your body and the smell make you feel more self conscious and less confident about yourself.

If you suffer from this foul smelling vaginal odor, you definitely want a cure that can help eliminate and get rid of the smell permanently. For those of you who have a smelly genital odor that won't go away, try the following preventive cures and remedies:

1. Avoid wearing tight underwear and pants that may cause vaginal sweating. Constricting clothes block the flow of air to the vaginal region and can trap moisture that could cause or increase vagina odor. Replace those figure hugging clothes with cotton panties and loose fitting clothes to improve better air circulation.

2. Maintain good personal hygiene by washing your vagina daily with warm water and unscented soap. Do not douche and also avoid using scented soaps or body wash since they can actually irritate your vagina and can worsen the existing smell.

3. Adding a cup of plain yogurt to your daily diet can be an effective cure for vaginal odor. Yogurt contain healthy (lactobacilli) bacteria that helps prevent and treat existing bacterial infection in your vagina that may be causing for your vaginal to smell.

4. Another proven cure for vaginal odor is garlic. With its strong anti-fungal properties, garlic can help eliminate the harmful bacteria in the vagina and minimize the strong scent of bad odor.

5. Watch what you eat and drink. Cut down on sugary foods and alcohol that can increase the amount of yeast in your vagina. Drink more water and eat more fruits plus vegetables that contain natural antioxidants qualities (such as prunes, blueberries, oranges, banana, spinach and beets) can help keep the vagina flushed of "bad" bacteria and get rid of bad vaginal odor.

Laser removal is one of the most effective options for removing stretch marks (also known as striae) after they appear. This procedure works in different way on different marks and can help to improve skin tone and smoothness. Unfortunately, there is no absolute cure for striae, but the results with laser surgery are some of the best. The drawbacks for this therapy include cost and potentially some discomfort following the procedure.

How Laser Removal Works? Is It Painful?

Because stretch marks are essentially a form of scarring, the removal of the unsightly marks are done in a similar way to any laser scar removal. The process involves directing a focused light or laser onto the skin in the area where the striae are located. The disruption this light causes to the skin stimulate the body to initiate a healing response. By activating that response, the goal is to encourage the skin to repair itself and the areas where the scars are found. The process itself shouldn't be painful, but the high intensity light does cause superficial damage, which is what prompts the healing response, so it is likely that you would experience some tenderness and redness following laser removal.

What Are The Risks And Benefits of Laser Therapy?

When having laser treatment, it is important to seek an expert with solid experience carrying out on the stretch mark removal. The main risk with laser therapy stems from the mishandling of the equipment by someone inexperienced. This can cause minor damage to the skin which shouldn't occur if you have someone experienced carrying out the procedure. The major benefits lie with the fact that this procedure is the most effective removal option other than surgery; and unless you are prepared to undertake a significantly more invasive option such as a tummy tuck, lasers will provide the satisfactory outcome.

What Are The Types of Stretch Marks That Are Most Suitable For Laser Treatment?

In general, all stretch marks can be treated but striae that are white in color respond best to laser treatment. The chances are that to see real results, you'll need to have a series of laser therapy sessions to start to see significant improvement.

What Is The Recovery Time For The Laser Treatment?

Recovery time following a procedure should be minimal, which is a further benefit of laser treatment. The time it takes can vary from one patient to the next, but generally the recovery period may be anything from a couple of hours up to a couple of days before the swelling and tenderness goes away.

What Is The Cost Of A Laser Removal Treatment?

The price that you will pay for laser removal will vary between one provider to the next. However, price should only play a small factor in choosing someone to carry out this procedure. The most important consideration when having laser treatment should be the level of experience and the quality of service provided by the person you choose. As a guideline, the price of treatment from someone experienced is likely to be around $150 up to $350 per treatment.
