Broadband phones, also known as "VoIP is catching on faster than ever. And no wonder, since the monthly cost of broadband telephone services, including long distance, are less expensive than what you pay for your phone company is just a dial tone. Yes, of course, you need a high-speed Internet connection that you connect your broadband phone, but most of the houses, in any case, so this is just another service that takes the minimum amount at a rate far, and only use it when you have active conversation on the phone.

Yes, broadband phone service is very popular. In fact, about a year ago new phone activation number of the U.S., which were broadband phones or VoIP phones over traditional phone services, new, for the first time in history! Yes, there are advantages as well as some neat features offered by some (not all) of the broadband supplier. But there are also some disadvantages, so let's take a brief look at the two corners.

Benefits

As stated earlier, broadband phone service is much cheaper than traditional phone service. Most broadband phone service includes unlimited "long distance calling in the continental United States, as well as locally. With a traditional phone, or pay a high premium for the unlimited option, or even discount long distance plan, you are still paying about 2.5 to 3 cents per minute (or more) long-distance calls.

There are many vendors and companies offering residential broadband phone service, it seems everyone wants to get. But what I noticed most expensive place to get it is from your cable company! Yes, the cable company, the same as that which provides you with cable TV, and perhaps also a cable Internet service provider, typically offer broadband phone service is almost twice what you can get it elsewhere. It pays to have knowledge of shopper!

Yes, almost everyone has heard of Vonage, and this service can be purchased at places like Best Buy, Circuit City, even Walmart. But again, you'll pay about 20% more than you need if you knew what I could be there.

Long distance, where the broadband phone plan for unlimited calling in Canada in the field, but some also in Puerto Rico. Some like Packet8 have separate plans to allow Europe to call and / or Asia. Know where you want to call and see if it is included in an air carrier's plan.

The word "unlimited" part - it is not really unlimited, at least not in the unlimited, so I know my Funk & Wagnall definition. Most carriers allow about 3,000 to 4,000 minutes a month, then they can call you and ask about the excessive use may think you are a business (higher rates) or by using some kind of auto-dialer strict no-no).

Disadvantages

Keep in mind that broadband phone service, you can make and receive calls via your own high-speed Internet connection. You need to have a good relationship, rather than the fringe areas of DSL. And if you can get satellite internet, and then hang him, because VOIP satellite is not going to be pretty at all.

Since you are using an Internet connection, it should be noted that, if your Internet connection goes down, your broadband phone. It is true that if you need phone service, and your Internet connection is not reliable, you may want to think about VOIP phone service.
