Her racing career was as tumultuously lined with rivalries with a deserving contender as was Sham’s with Secretariat’s. Despite the fact that her prime contention made it almost impossible to win a championship, Blind Luck pulled off an ‘in-time’ feat of winning some major stakes races against Havre de Grace and accomplished the task of being titled American Champion Three Year Old Filly.
Blind Luck came second to Havre de Grace in the Breeder’s Cup Classic of their three year old season, however, her feats prior to Breeder’s comprised of a host of prestigious graded stakes that easily voted her in preference to Havre de Grace for the year’s championship. Currently, the champion three year old filly awaits to be bred by Bernardini, who she’s been booked for this year. It’s quite obvious that its the same time of the year when Havre de Grace too shall be bred by the colt setting off ample expectations on whose foal will fair better and what will it be.
Blind Luck did an amazing job winning the Grade 1 Oak Leaf Stakes for fillies right after closing second in the Grade 1 Darley Debutante Stakes as a two year old. Her considerable exposure to graded stakes landed a third place finish in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile which she lost to She Will Be Wild and Beautician. Its uncanny how Blind Luck, despite being the amazing filly that she was, never made it to winning a Breeder’s Cup race.
With a racing career lined with intermittent winning sprees interrupted only by in the money finishes, Blind Luck managed to pull 22 starts in three years, 21 of which were in the money. Only during the Lady’s Secret Stakes as a four year old in 2011 that she lost the speed and was left behind at the trailing end that Blind Luck was finally eliminated from a Breeder’s Cup Classic contention and also racing.
In a cut-throat competition with Havre de Grace and Unrivaled Belle, Blicd Luck went on to win a host of graded stakes for three year old fillies, including the Las Virgenes Stakes, the Fantasy Stakes, The Kentucky Oaks (which is the Kentucky Derby equivalent for fillies), the Delaware Oaks, Alabama Stakes and the Fitx Dixon Cotillon Stakes.
As an older female horse, Blind Luck conquered the La Troienne Stakes followed by the Vanity Invitational and the Delaware Handicap. Conditioned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Blind Lukc retired with a racing career earnings worth $3.3 million. She is by Pollard’s Vision out of Best of Luck mare, Lucky One.
